Happy Mother’s Day! I had the joy of spending this weekend teaching 30 parents, grandparents and children how to make a Fairy or Gnome Garden Floral Arrangement. It’s fun to add some whimsy to the lives of the Minnetonka community.

This post is not about selling.

It’s about values, memory, and how we choose to show up.

Everything I create is designed with love and intention. When I chose the name Sammen Design, I did so deliberately — sammen is a Norwegian word that means “together.” It reflects my belief that beauty, community, and care are inseparable.

I am of immigrant descent. In my home are items that were carried across the ocean on ships by my ancestors as they journeyed toward a better life than the one they were leaving behind. I honor the courage of that journey and the hope that carried them forward.

I also acknowledge the privilege that an additional 160+ years on American soil has afforded my family — safety, stability, and opportunity that others are still fighting for today. That awareness shapes how I see the world and how I choose to show up in my community.

Like healthy gardens, strong communities thrive through diversity, interdependence, and care.

I believe everyone deserves dignity, safety, and the ability to live without fear or separation from the people they love.

Sammen Design stands with immigrant families and supports community-led efforts that provide care, stability, and protection here in Minnesota.

6 , 7 😵‍💫 and 41. The magical numbers of 2025. I did 6 holiday workshops and 7 custom orders over the course of 4 weeks and I got 1 picture. Jokes aside, this happens to me every year. I’m busy teaching, creating, and cleaning up and my phone is usually tucked away somewhere on silent or playing an audiobook in my pocket but is rarely used for pictures. If you took one of my workshops or had me create a centerpiece, pot, garland or wreath please please please share your pictures with me. Thank you for supporting this small, local business. The Thanksgiving Centerpiece my 14yo made at my Minnetonka Community Ed class on Nov 21st is still going strong!

If this isn’t a testament to foam free arrangements, changing the water every 2-3 days and using fresh product I don’t know what is. The roses were pulled after a full week but the rest is still looking great on day 11!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I love marigolds.

Do I have your attention? Haha. Not my best work, is it? This is how feel today after 5 solid weekends of workshops, weddings, private events and teaching pollinator and garden lessons and planting with 252 kindergarteners and 2nd graders. I have 11 ranunculus leftover and I don’t have the energy to do anything so I plopped them in a jar. This is where they will sit until I have the energy to be creative. I will try Sunday. Maybe.

I can never quite figure out how to caption images of arrangements for personal delivery. I don’t feel like it’s my place to share other people’s stories but I do love how I can contribute to their memories in such a meaningful way
