During a recent trip to San Francisco, I combined family time with photography work on a project for .architecture — the firm founded by my brother Lawrence Rugg and his partner Neil Wallis. An 8-foot ladder proved essential for capturing this striking tall, narrow house in all its glory!
The home belongs to a successful film producer, director, and writer. Its compact yet commanding design is Streamline Moderne — a branch of Art Deco inspired by the futuristic, aerodynamic aesthetics of 1930s transportation. Between shoots, we made the most of San Francisco’s offerings: a visit to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, a round of golf in the Berkeley hills, and an unexpected coyote sighting among the redwoods.
Stay tuned — photos from this project will be coming in a few weeks!

Herbst Eatery & Farm Stand is a chef-driven, neighborhood restaurant and market owned by long-time South St. Anthony Park residents Jörg and Angie Pierach. It’s inspired by an Amish farm stand near the owners’ hobby farm located in Western Wisconsin. The farm stand is the source of many of the fresh ingredients the Pierachs use to create the almost entirely locally sourced meals they prepare at their farm.

Last summer, my photo assistant and I stepped away from a shoot near Madison, Wisconsin to explore Devil’s Lake State Park—and it did not disappoint.
We climbed over massive quartzite boulders to reach Balanced Rock and Devil’s Doorway (and made it back in one piece). Situated along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, the park offers sweeping views from 500-foot bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Well worth the detour.

A look at the recent transformation of Boston Scientific in Arden Hills, photographed for CoBeck Construction.
This 80,000 sq. ft. renovation reimagines the workspace with new open areas, offices, and conference rooms. Neutral-toned lounge and meeting spaces, a light-filled open lecture room, and a detailed wood “tree of life” installation in the break area create a calm, cohesive environment.
In contrast, the specialty conference room features dark finishes, and an Aktura ceiling offers a bold and distinctive focal point.
