Wood countertops deserve a better PR team.

Somewhere along the way, they earned a reputation for being fussy. In reality, they're a lot more practical than most people give them credit for.

For generations, wood countertops have been a staple in hardworking kitchens. With the right finish and a little routine care, they stand up beautifully to everyday life.

What they offer that other materials can't is warmth. Like show here in our Luxury on the Lake kitchen remodel project, the natural grain, rich texture, and patina that develops over time gives wood countertops character that only gets better with age. If you're after a kitchen that feels inviting and has depth, wood is worth a look.

Are they maintenance-free? No. They benefit from occasional upkeep (depending on the finish), and you'll want to reach for a cutting board instead of chopping directly on the surface. But for many homeowners, that's a small tradeoff for a countertop with this much personality.

Like every material, wood isn't the right choice for everyone. But don't cross it off your list because of a reputation it doesn't entirely deserve.
