Grace, Welcome, and Community - Mpls Area Synod ELCA 10/10/2025

So glad to read this post by Juan Gonzalez, the Director of Family Faith of the Minneapolis Area Synod of the ELCA, that includes a reference to Agora's closing event on September 13.

Grace, Welcome, and Community - Mpls Area Synod ELCA By Juan GonzalezIn our synod, grace shows up in many ways. It appears when communities come closer together for safety and solidarity, when we are present for one another in collaboration and consolation, and when we welcome those who seek belonging. Juan

Today we had our second Agora Pop Up event hosted by Galilee Lutheran Church, Minnesota Faith Chinese Lutheran Church, and St. Paul Friends Nepali Church. We worshiped, learned, had lunch, and built community as brothers and sisters in Christ. We were all citizens and residents of this country, but among the participants we had people who are originally from México, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, China, Nepal, Indonesia, Liberia... And the pastors of the three hosting congregations have a lot of international experience. Pastor Dana Nelson, from Galilee Lutheran Church, has lived in all the continents and has served as Lutheran missionary in Perú and is fluent in Spanish. Interim Pastor Dave Person, from Minnesota Faith Chinese Lutheran Church, has served as Lutheran missionary in Japan and speaks Japanese. Pastor Kumar Tamang, from St. Paul Friends Nepali Church, is an immigrant from Nepal and speaks three languages apart from being fluent in English.

Unfortunately we have had to cancel the retreat we had announced for October 17 and 18. We are postponing it to the Spring of next year and we will post the new date as soon as we have it.

Lutheran worship begins with a bold proclamation: “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all!” This is the bold proclamation that we will discussion and experience through multicultural mutual learning during our retreat on October 17 and 18. Hope you will be able to join us!
