Woman Filmmaker | Minneapolis, MN

Simone LeClaire is a white Minnesotan woman who grew up on Leech Lake Indian Reservation, obtained film and sociology degrees in Moorhead, MN, and has lived in Minneapolis for six years. In her personal work, she is interested in self-interrogation, how film might work to transform the narratives of our white supremacist patriarchy, and how to keep creative processes healthy, truthful, and abundant. Her six narrative shorts have screened at festivals around the country in addition to being featured in multiple Minneapolis screenings. As of November 2019 they are all available to watch online on the Directed By Simone YouTube channel.

As of October 2019, Simone is in post-production on her first feature, Sunflower Man, a documentary about severe mental illness, transience, and flowers; she is also in post-production of another narrative short, Contact. In January 2020 she created Bathroom Break, a comedy short co-written with Marina Kittaka, for the local filmmaking contest Z-Fest 2020.

Simone is available for hire as an editor (Adobe Premiere), producer, and director.
