Code Savvy
Code Savvy creates opportunities for hands-on computer science learning that inspires learners to transform the future.
Code Savvy interrupts and counteracts existing gender, racial, and economic gaps in computing by equipping youth and educators with the knowledge, skills, and support to create with technology.

π Code Savvy turns 13 today!
This year, we got to do what we love most: putting computer science in the hands of Minnesota youth and educators β for free.
A few highlights from the last 12 months:
π» Code Explorers β ongoing sessions introducing kids to the joy of coding
π€ Innovate For Good: AI Builders Day β a day of hands-on coding and AI exploration last June
π©βπ» Technovation Girls Minnesota β empowering girls to build tech solutions for real-world problems
π Professional Development for Educators β equipping teachers with the tools to bring CS into their classrooms
None of it happens without support from people like you. As we celebrate another year of expanding access to computer science opportunities, will you help us keep it going?

Here's to another year of building, exploring, and creating with tech. π

"I've thought about mentoring for Technovation Girls Minnesota, but I'm not really a tech person."
We hear this all the time, and here's the truth: you don't need to be a coding or tech expert to be an amazing mentor for a Technovation Girls Minnesota team. What girls need most is someone who believes in them, asks good questions, and shows up.
Technovation Girls Minnesota gives girls ages 8-18 the chance to build real apps and business plans, and walk away seeing themselves as technologists and leaders. If you're passionate about getting more girls into tech and want to help make that happen, we want to meet you! And if you're a parent with a daughter who might be a great fit for the program, come learn more too!
Come find out more at our Open House on Thursday, September 24 from 5-7 PM at Urban Growler in St. Paul. Meet current mentors, ask every question you've got, and see what the program is really like.

A huge thank you to WD for supporting Code Savvy and helping make Innovate for Good: AI Builders Day possible!
Events like AI Builders Day give students the opportunity to explore coding and AI through hands-on challenges, creative problem solving, and collaboration with peers and mentors. Together, weβre helping young people build the confidence and skills to imagine how technology can create positive change.
Weβre grateful for partners like WD who believe in expanding access to meaningful computer science experiences for students across Minnesota.

π July 4th Coding Challenge π
No Code Explorers tomorrow because it's the 4th of July! But that doesn't mean the coding has to stop.
This weekend's challenge: build a fireworks animation in Scratch (or a programming language of your choice)! π§¨
Some ideas to get you started:
β¨ Add different colors
π Layer in sounds
π Experiment with patterns
Use loops to launch multiple bursts, broadcast messages to time your show, and play with the pen blocks to make your fireworks trail across the stage. However you approach it, be creative!
Share a screenshot or a link to your project in the comments. We can't wait to see what you build. π»
