Delicious Kitchens:

Not sure if you've noticed, but there's been a bit of a white-and-gray takeover of interior design the last several years. Thankfully, those doldrum days are over. Time to infuse your home with a little personality!

Personally, I love color. In the house I grew up in, the kitchen (designed by my mom) had orange Youngstown cabinets paired with yellow laminate tops, avocado green appliances, and Armstrong's ubiquitous brick pattern vinyl that glowed with each of those essential colors. It is as glorious today, 50 yrs later, as it was then. And that floor is still in perfect condition!

Color can be scary though. Too much and it's dizzying, too little is boring, and ill-placed is off-putting. The right amount in the right places is always our goal. You'll find that the right amount of color (for you) will make a big difference in the feel of your space. When we work with clients, we really want to capture a bit of them in the project. Some are really excited to try a color on their cabinets, maybe a jazzy backsplash. Others want to see color on every surface, from flooring to light fixtures and everything in between.

Whether it's painted cabinets, an unique backsplash, decorative accents, or taking it all to 11, we are here for it. Life is too short to be wrapped in gray (wardrobes excluded).

Wallpaper: Love 😍 or Hate 😬, It's Having a Moment

Remember your grandparents' house? All the furniture in its place (maybe even with plastic covers on it!), fresh vacuum lines on the plush carpet, and wallpaper everywhere!

Removing wallpaper is right up there with stripping paint (we'll discuss another time) as a most loathed activity. The last thing you ever want to do after removing wallpaper is to put more up!

But now, wallpaper is back, thanks to insty peel-and-stick options at online shops like Spoonflower and Walls Need Love. Now absolutely anyone can add some flair to their place- even you, renters! (Tip, don't put it over existing paper wallpaper or it will NOT come off nicely. Looking at you, my lovely tenant. 😬)

Used in small doses, wallpaper can add energy or calm to a room. It can add depth, sophistication, or playfulness- depends on what you're going for.

We've used it a lot in bathrooms- a great low-risk, high-return spot is a half bath. It's small, it's what guests will see, give it some personality!

Regardless of how or where you use wallpaper, remember that it's in your design toolkit. Peel-and-stick or wallpaper for the ages, take a chance. Paint shouldn't have to do all the work.
