In order to create the perfect home for our clients and their family we needed to tear off the old addition and roof, add a brand new three story addition, and add a third floor while remodeling the rest of the interior. The result was a charming home customized to the clients' needs and desires.

The owner of this Humboldt loft condominium that overlooks the Minneapolis skyline wanted to modernize and improve the livability of his home. We replaced the floors, the kitchen cabinets, and divided the main living space to create a second master suite. There are many challenges working in a condominium setting: existing structure, mechanical systems as well as the day-to-day trials of getting everything to the job site in an elevator. We capitalized on our past experiences designing and building in this type of setting to create a more functional and beautiful home.

A beautiful 1930’s Tudor house in a quiet Minneapolis Neighborhood needed some updates. We worked with the clients to design and build an addition that housed a new kitchen, a more functional mudroom, a powder room, and a new studio office space below.

The new kitchen’s vintage checkerboard floor, soapstone countertops, and fun color palette all work together to create a unique space that matches the charm of the rest of the house. Handmade tile and heated floors in the spacious mudroom provide a great spot for winter boots and coats. The new lower level studio steps down to create a more spacious feel and high windows fill the space with light.

The result is a striking transformation to an already awesome home.

Designing condominium projects can be challenging and this was no exception, but we were up for the task. The small, closed off, galley kitchen was completely transformed by rotating it ninety degrees and knocking down a wall, turning it into the center of a now open and light filled home. All of the additional new spaces and natural materials provide a clean backdrop that highlights the homeowner’s unique art collection and adds warmth to the entire condo.

When Locale first saw this prospective creek-side lot, we knew we had an opportunity to design and build a new home with our client that would be a staple of the neighborhood for generations. The result is an "authentic, handcrafted, and permanent" house created for the daily lifestyle of the family. The residence features long, unobstructed views of Minnehaha creek from almost every room. The homeowners will continue to enjoy this timeless residence for generations to come!

Here we chose to enhance our client's existing home by interjecting a more contemporary material palette using rift-sawn white oak and painted dark cabinets. We also expanded openings between the spaces to take advantage of the wonderful natural light from the large new windows. The result is a more spacious and bright home that the clients are "over the moon" with!

We designed this home with to the simple gable form common to the neighborhood while adding a modern twist that the clients love. The home's long, slender form fits appropriately between its neighbors and allows for dramatic interior natural lighting throughout the day.
