A patrol shift asks something completely different, long hours on your feet, heavy gear, unpredictable bursts of explosive movement, and the requirement to perform at full capacity the moment a situation escalates. The average law enforcement duty belt weighs between 15 and 25 pounds. Add a level three vest and you are looking at an extra 30 pounds of weight during a full sprint. Most officers are never specifically trained to run, fight, or pursue under those conditions. The ones who can are usually former military, combat athletes, or people who treat their fitness the same way they treat their service, like it actually matters when it counts.
