Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Woman's Club of Wisconsin, Present Music's concert on September 17th featured three world premieres.

The program showcased pieces by Luna Composition Lab alumni Zola Saadi-Klein and Olivia Bennett, alongside a new work from Luna teaching mentor Alex Temple.

"Thursday night’s “Composed for WCW” at the Woman's Club of Wisconsin grew from a seed planted together by Present Music, Luna Composition Lab and the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin. The three Milwaukee-area groups worked in harmony to unearth new works with “inclusive programming for emerging talent” through “mentorship for young female, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming composers.”

The Woman’s Club of Wisconsin Celebrates a Milestone With Music The club gives cheers to 150 years with a concert, staged by Present Music and featuring three world premieres of works by women and nonbinary composers.

Present Music’s concert at the Woman's Club of Wisconsin on September 17th will feature three world premieres; two from Luna Composition Lab alumnae Zola Saadi-Klein and Olivia Bennett, and one from a Luna teaching mentor, Alex Temple.

Luna Lab, a project celebrating its 10th year, was founded by composers Ellen Reid and Missy Mazzoli (herself an early commission of Present Music!) to provide mentorship, education, and resources for young female, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming composers.

Present Music is proud to partner in the mission to close the gender gap in music composition.
