Singer/flutist/composer Nathalie Joachim has a varied career, having performed with Eight Blackbird and the flute duo Flutronic, and currently teaching at Princeton University.
With Present Music, she will perform music from her last album, Ki moun ou ye-- a lush creation featuring layers of vocals sung mostly in Haitian Kreyól.
This World Cafe interview delves into the influence of her seven-generation family heritage in Haiti.

Classical: Present Music Offers Three Musical Adventures With top billing for Grammy-nominated Haitian-American composer Nathalie Joachim.
𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐦: “𝐊𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢 𝐲𝐨” (𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐉𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫𝐝)
Nathalie Joachim shares a live performance video of “Kouti yo,” a track from her 2024 album Ki moun ou ye.
Made at The Juilliard School, the video is created and conceived by Joachim (a Juilliard Arnhold Creative Associate) and features her on voice, flute, and electronics. Directed and choreographed by Chanel DaSilva.
Present Music audiences will hear Joachim perform the entire piece live on June 5th, as well as Present Music performances of inti figgis-vizueta and Marcos Balter.
David Bloom conducts.

Composer/flutist/vocalist Nathalie Joachim will perform her piece Ki Moun Ou Ye, which explores her Haitian heritage. The piece is an introspective journey that delves into self-discovery, ancestral connection, and cultural memory. It explores the voice’s role as a tool for survival, drawing inspiration from her family’s seven generations of life on their remote Haitian farmland, and features a vibrant tapestry of Joachim’s voice, electronically sampled vocal textures, and an instrumental ensemble conducted by David Bloom.
