Sharp Shot EFX

Here's a brief little overview of how I made my Imhotep bodysuit in such a short period of time, a lot of the hard work was already done for me as I was able to recycle pieces and molds from previous costumes. This is the same general build process I use for most of my rubber suits.

The torso was sculpted on a half mannequin display form, since it had my approximate measurements and I only really needed the front half of a body for this. This was specifically sculpted for Vecna, but before Vecna was actually completed, I used it for Imhotep when I first did the costume last year.

The pants were actually the original set of pants I completed for Vecna, but not the ones I ended up wearing to cons. These prototype pants were a bit thicker than I would have liked, and the paint was spotty in a few places, so I figured they made for a solid base to start from on this time crunch. To disguise the Vecna textures, I added little bits of latex rot to break up the textures.

Once the pants were done, I glued the torso to the bodysuit. Unlike Vecna, this is a sleeveless leotard with a hood, and only features latex on the very front.

Like the pants, I covered the whole thing in the rotting latex to create a gross organic look and hide the other textures, and then sealed the whole thing with latex paint.

Once the mask was cast and trimmed, it was time to paint the whole suit all at once. I hit the mask with the same base layer as the rest of the body, and painted the whole thing with a combination of alcohol washes, spattering for color breakup, subtle applications of Createx airbrush paints, and hand painted acrylics.

Depending on how I'm feeling I may bring Vecna as well, though I'm not sure if I'll have him as a display piece only or wear him for a little bit, time will tell I suppose, maybe I'll even have Imhotep on display while I wear Vecna.

I gotta be comfortable while judging, so Buggy is gonna be ideal for that, but who knows I may swap him and Ghoul for Sunday friend on if I feel like wearing a full face or just a nose.

Imhotep has very much been a labor of love from when I first did a rough version all the way back in 2021, I'm so proud of this costume and how far I've come since then, never once did I expect it to be a best in show winner, but it was absolutely a welcome surprise.

Now that Imhotep is finished though, I'm left wondering what my next monster build should be.

Ten years ago today Ghostbusters: Answer the Call premiered in theaters, and I have been a fan of this movie since day 1.

Love it or hate it, it's undeniable it breathed new life into the franchise, and while I love what we've got in the last few years, I'm still sad we never received a proper sequel.

Dr Holtzmann is always going to hold a special place in my heart, she's just a whole lot of fun to wear to cons, with people always coming up to me and telling me how much they liked the movie and how she's their favorite character, it makes me feel good to be able to connect with other fans.

I haven't been as active with Ghostbusters cosplay in recent years unfortunately, but I'd love to bring Holtzmann back eventually, and I'd especially love to build a new (lighter) reboot proton pack.

So very proud to say that during my first time competing at Kitsune Kon and my first time competing in Masters, Imhotep managed to snag Best in Show!

I'm honestly floored by the reception to the costume, when I was announced I genuinely could not process what just happened and it didn't feel real, but I am so grateful to everyone involved, the judges, the organizers, and my fellow contestants, thank you all so much, Ra is pleased.

I know I'm quite late BUT I'd be remised if I didn't acknowledge the 25th anniversary of Atlantis: The Lost Empire, easily my favorite Disney animated film.

Milo is such a fun character to cosplay on the rare occasions I break him out, simply because I love seeing people get so excited when they recognize him.

Fun fact about these jodhpur pants, I bought them way back in early 2020, and they date back to 1910, so these pants are the single oldest piece in my costume collection.
