Successful school projects find the balance between community needs and priorities and funding sources to ensure the outcomes not just meet regulatory requirements but truly create spaces that exceed project goals and elevate the human experience within them.
Evidence shows that when planning starts with community engagement and leans into research-based design components, the results better support student outcomes, staff performance, and long-term community value. At the Spring Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials (WASBO) Conference, PRA and our partners shared case studies on creating educational specifications rooted in community-expressed needs, integrating code compliance early in the design process for both safety and fiscal efficiencies, and leveraging various funding sources to support community programming.
These conversations reinforced a common theme: thoughtful planning at the beginning of a project creates opportunities for better decisions, stronger outcomes, and lasting impact.

We kicked off June with a great day on the course in support of the Slinger-Allenton Rotary. We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a strong and engaged community and are proud to continue our partnership with the Village of Slinger as we advance design efforts across multiple projects in the village.

Last week, Gibraltar Area School District celebrated an exciting milestone with the dedication and ribbon cutting of its newly completed spaces.
Members of the PRA team were honored to join district leaders, staff, students, community members, and project partners in celebrating this moment and the collaboration that made it possible.
We're grateful for the opportunity to help bring these spaces to life and excited to see the impact they will have on learning, connection, and student success for years to come. Thank you to everyone who played a role in making this vision a reality.

Last week PRA got the opportunity to attend the ribbon cutting and open house for The Karrick Apartments, the newest development for Kenosha Harbor District.
The Karrick Apartments located in downtown Kenosha, WI is part of a mixed-use redevelopment initiative. It houses 158 multi-family units adjacent to the waterfront, City Hall, and restaurants. This project is the start to the city’s forward momentum and will be a destination for business, events, dining, and shopping.
We are very grateful to be part of this project and excited to see what comes next in Kenosha’s journey.

At PRA, we value the commitment we provide to both our team members and our clients. This May, we kicked off the first session of our "ConstructED by PRA" at Blue Wren in Madison, WI. Our talented senior staff are sharing their knowledge and experience in the field with our younger architects to be.
This month, we talked about footings and foundations. Russ Owens, Senior Construction Administrator/Architect, and Marc Ott, Senior Project Manager, walked the team through the importance of foundation standardization for tolerances, how a building is staked out on site, and the role grade elevations play in setting a project up for success from the ground up.
Stay tuned for more posts, as our building continues to grow to meet our client's vision!

It’s been a busy and rewarding season for PRA’s Education Studio as our team has had the opportunity to connect with school district leaders and industry partners through conferences and presentations across Wisconsin.
From conversations and presentations on school safety and inclusive learning environments to fiscal stewardship and project leadership, we’ve shared ideas, learned from others, and helped shape the future of education design.
This year, our team had the privilege of presenting at several conferences alongside outstanding clients and partners:
Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) Conference
• Steve Kieckhafer & Doug Kunde – Life Safety & Building Codes
• Devin Kack with Franklin Public School District & Cadence Consulting – Beyond the Grandstand: Creating a Thriving Future Through Strategic Fiscal Stewardship
• Nicholas Kent & Dr. Melissa Thompson– A Sure Bet for Your Budget: Educational SPECIFICations that Deliver
AIA Wisconsin Conference 2026
• Doug Kunde – Leading the Conversation: Positioning the Architect as Project Leader
WASDA (AWSA) Conference
• Nicholas Kent & Dr. Melissa Thompson – Designing with All Students in Mind: Creating Learning Spaces Where Everyone Thrives
Thank you to the clients, collaborators, conference organizers, and attendees who continue to make these conversations meaningful. We’re proud to be part of discussions that create better learning environments and thriving communities.

It was a strong finish at Nativity Catholic Church in Longwood, Florida this week! Reaching the final punch reflects the thoughtful design, coordination, and craftsmanship behind the project, and we’re proud to have collaborated with the Diocese of Orlando and Certified General Contractors, Inc. to bring that vision to completion!
