In 1975 leaders on the South Side established NIP as a way to provide summer jobs to high school age NIP offers free home repairs to low-income homeowners.
With funding from the Community Development Grants Administration, NIP has been repairing homes since 1975.

Mark Kuhagen started as a Youth Worker on Hector Rodriguez's crew of mostly hispanics. On one of his first days he wore a Sherkow Men's Wear T shirt that had a tuxedo front. For the rest of his career he was fondly known as pinguino.

Javier Sanchez and Michael Van Alstine became friends when Mike caught Javier stealing Mike's crew's paint brushes. Apparently Mike made his crew wash their brushes unlike the crew Javier was on..

Yolanda Jaurez, better know as Julie was the NIP secretary beginning in 1978. She and Mark Mudek found true love at NIP and were married. Undoubtedly, she smashed Jav at foosball.
