Red-hot steel, straight from the furnace to the hammer.
This is forging at Milwaukee ForgeTech.
Same hammer. Different tongs. Different result.
These two operators are using the hammer very differently - one lightly “tapping” the billet while the other delivers much stronger blows.
But the difference isn't the operator. It's the tongs.
They're drawing out the billet, gradually changing its shape so it's better prepared for the next stage of in the press.
Sometimes the smallest details on the forge floor have the most interesting explanations.
