This coming Spring Break, make it about community, service and justice. For over 30 years, Marquette University students have enjoyed choosing service trips during Marquette's Spring Break. To spend time living in community, reflecting upon issues of social justice, and making a difference in a community in need, is a memory not to be missed. Our sites are organized within the themes of urban pove

I got brand new perspectives on race and poverty, which I will carry with me forever. I also gained 10 new friends!
I was drawn to Marquette for its service and had heard such great things about MAP from my older friends who had participated. So I decided to check it out! To look into going to Montgomery or any of or other sites check out our web page at www.marquette.edu/cm/service/map

For me, M.A.P. has been an opportunity to learn what it means to live a faith that does justice. It is an opportunity to go all in – to commit to learning, growing, and doing that justice for a whole week. During one trip, I went to Dubuque, IA to spend a week on a Catholic Worker Farm. There, I worked side by side with people who devote their entire life to justice, whether climate justice through organic farming and simple lifestyle, economic justice by working for the uplift of those who are homeless or addicted, food justice by running an urban farm owned by the community, and the relational justice by running an urban farm owned by the community, and the relational justice that comes from an open door and a peaceful heart. They inspired me to cultivate these things in my own life, and I am a better person for it. I decided to do M.A.P. because I knew I wanted to work for change but wasn’t sure how to do it. Each trip I went on through M.A.P. led me to better understand a new aspect of justice through the lens of my faith and has prepared me to truly live that out in the real world. Last year on MAP, I was able to find out that I love working with adults with disabilities and that there is so much we can do to affirm them and encourage them. I also made some really valuable friendships with people who I never would've met otherwise.
I decided to do MAP because my friends encouraged me to do it and I wanted to use my spring break to make a difference in people's lives. Apply to MAP at www.marquette.edu/cm/service/map Pictured Sofi Driscoll 2021 College of Arts and Sciences Majoring in Theology and Psychology

One takeaway that I had from MAP was the power of your presence in impacting your surrounding community. I decided to go on a MAP trip because it was a great way to see a different city over spring break, while doing something meaningful with other Marquette students you would otherwise not be able to meet. I went with three other girls to Detroit, and we really had a good time. Our paths would have never crossed at Marquette, but we literally could not stop laughing the entire trip. MAP really brings you together quickly and immerses you in your site.
Unfortunately, we no longer have a Detroit, Michigan site but we do have a new site in Flint, Michigan. This will be the first year that MAP will take a trip to Flint to work alongside those at The Firestone Center.
