💐 Volunteer Spotlight: Jim Carpenter 💐

This is a long overdue thank you to our favorite peace activist, Jim Carpenter. Jim is a longtime member of Peace Action that our M4P Community got to know through the pro-Palestine coalition work that sprung up after Al Aqsa Flood in 2023. Jim has been a dependable, fierce advocate for Palestine, especially in political spaces across Milwaukee - from confronting Gwen Moore on her support for genocide, to introducing a ceasefire resolution at the Milwaukee County Democratic Party and getting it passed as the State Convention, to giving public testimony to stop the anti-Palestinian AB 446 & SB 445 (IHRA Bill). Beyond the political, Jim always makes sure to uplift and center Palestinian voices when he's given a platform (or when he takes the platform!).

We are grateful for Jim's example, his willingness to learn & grow as an ally in the struggle, and his relentless optimism that liberation is near. Thank you for all you do, Jim, and see you at the next bike ride for Palestine!

🇵🇸 We stand with our Palestinian neighbor, 3mo, and political prisoner Salah Sarsour. 🇵🇸

We join calls demanding his immediate release, and we add demands to abolish ICE and every part of the empire that terr*rizes, harms, exploits, diminishes, and abuses our communities. Please take time to read through this analysis, to share this information with your community, and to have conversations with your loved ones. ❤️

🇵🇸 ⚖️ WE REFUSE TO BE SILENCED - A TEACH-IN ON YOUR RIGHTS UNDER WI ACT 143 🇵🇸 ⚖️

In late March, WI Governor Tony Evers signed Assembly Bill 446 into law, becoming Act 143. This law codifies the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition of anti-semitism, a definition which includes criticisms of Israel as an example of anti-semitism. Specifically, the law directs government officials to consider this new definition of anti-semitism when considering hate crime enhancers in a criminal charging decision. While Wisconsin is not the first state to see this bill, it is the most recent state to sign it into law, sparking concerns about what this means for Wisconsinites' free speech rights when it comes to Palestine.

Join us on April 16 as we discuss the implications of this new law, what it does & does not do, and how you can protect yourself without being silenced. We will have an attorney present to discuss the potential legal implications, and our team will be on hand to discuss how we can amplify - not shrink - our voices at this crucial time of political repression against Palestinians in Wisconsin.

📅 Thursday, April 16
🕕 6:00 - 8:00pm (come & go as needed!)
📍 ISM Community Center, 815 W Layton Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53221 (near Pita Palace)
🚍 On bus lines 55, 19, 80
