SEED stands for Sowing, Empowering, and Eliminating Food Deserts. This initiative is bringing community gardening to Milwaukee's most under served areas.

Sowing, Empowering, and Eliminating Food Desserts (SEED) initiative is a resolution passed by the Milwaukee County government to provide funding to create one million square feet of new community garden space in 2016. The goal is to educate, empower and equip Milwaukee County residents to successfully receive access to healthy food in their communities.

The holiday spirit swept 30+ Clarke Square residents and children from Journey House to a Christmas tree farm in the countryside of Grafton with over 10,000 trees. The lively group selected a grand tree to light up Clarke Square and 4 lucky families were chosen to receive free holiday trees to decorate their homes. Only 1 of the residents had previously visited a Christmas tree farm in their lives.

We enjoyed planting seedlings with the youth, playing veggie trivia, and signing up community gardeners at the Mitchell Park Domes Milwaukee Winter Farmers Market this past Saturday for last market of the season! We'll be back in 2018!

Journey House Community Garden source of pride for Clarke Square 02/08/2017

A great community garden is one that grows relationships, nurtures the mind, and heals the body.
A nice article in light of the garden becoming a finalist for a Award. Possibilities are infinite when dedicated organizations like Journey House, Milwaukee County UW-Extension, and Clarke Square Neighborhood Initiative unite to foremost engage residents in cultivating welcome and vibrancy within once-dreaded spaces.

Two women, once strangers, share a poem and artwork inspired by the beauty of flowers and vegetables at Milwaukee County UW-Extension's Kohl Farm - Wisconsin's largest community garden. As the music trio plays interpretively to these works of art, the audience snacks on a meal made from garden ingredients during a cooking demonstration.

We're excited for MCW Community Engagement to embrace ways of supporting these types of healthy and creative events in the Milwaukee community.
