It took me years to realize this. I've applied this to anybody in my life that has disrespected me, said hurtful words to me repeatedly, that decided that I don't mean enough to them to be a part of their life.

I respect myself to have peace and happiness in my life.

We are influenced by the people we spend our time with, and it should go without saying that our relationships should help us, not hurt us. Look around. Do the people you spend your 24 hours with reflect the person you want to be? Our friends should respect us and care about us, make our day more enjoyable by their presence. Life goes by quickly. Tighten your circle and keep negative influences away. Friends don’t hurt each other. Don’t volunteer for discomfort. We are not in grammar school and we can move away from people who don’t resonate in a positive way with our soul. Distance yourself from people who use you, lie to you, disrespect you and criticize you. Some people in life make us more happy every time we see them. Some people in life make us less happy every time we see them. The choice is always ours. We disrespect ourself when we remain with people who disrespect us. Respect yourself.
Don’t shrink for anyone. Not everyone we meet is meant to travel with us on our journey. Some people are only meant to travel so far. You are not being disloyal by moving away from anyone who no longer reflects the way you wish to live. When we improve ourself, we improve the world.
