Our Outstanding Senior of the week is Gustavo Ayala, 2020 Take Stock In Children- Santa Rosa County graduate from Pace High School! His personal determination to achieve and maintain his 3.93 GPA (unweighted) was balanced with his school activities such as Santa Rosa County Teen Court, National Honor Society, and the Santa Rosa Kids House.

“From the moment Gustavo came into our program, he has proven he is determined to do well and succeed. He is a great young man with a lot of potential,” shared Angi Brown of the Santa Rosa Education Foundation.

Gustavo is a driven Take Stock student scholar with his sights set on the University of West Florida where he will study in the fall and our collegiate scholars program with TSIC UWF powered by Gulf Power. Congratulations on all of your hard work so far and best wishes on your road to become an attorney, Gustavo!

These affiliates leaders worked tirelessly for Take Stock in Children. They have been available to take on special projects, mentor other affiliate staff members, and always personified the mission of Take Stock in Children throughout their communities.

Daniel Smithson graduated in 2012 from Take Stock In Children- Santa Rosa County. As a first-generation college student, Daniel received a lot from his experience in the Take Stock program.

“The mentorship I received in Take Stock gave me the tools I needed to graduate from my dream college and later become a journalist.”

Upon graduating from the University of Florida in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Daniel received an offer from The Gainesville Sun newspaper to become their newest business reporter. While in Gainesville, he also served as a mentor for the Take Stock in Children program with The Education Foundation of Alachua County.

Today, Daniel is a digital reporter for WKRG covering Northwest Florida news for the TV station at its Pensacola bureau. The majority of his reporting appears on WKRG.com, but you might see him on News 5 every now and then! Daniel has shown his appreciation for the Take Stock in Children program in so many ways. He returned to the Santa Rosa program as a guest speaker for their Senior Recognition and Contract Signing events. Congratulations Daniel on not only reaching your goals, but for serving your community along the way as a shining Take Stock Alumnus!

Congratulations, Alexa, on being named our Santa Rosa Take Stock in Children Outstanding Senior! We can’t wait to see what your future holds!

Alexa Valovic is our 2023 Take Stock Outstanding Senior from Take Stock In Children- Santa Rosa County! The Navarre High School senior is headed to the University of Florida in the fall to study Chemistry. Alexa’s drive and insatiable thirst for learning shine through her community service, and she hopes to improve the world around her.

This Outstanding Senior’s school activities and Community Service projects include the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, GSA Club, NWFL Regional Science Fair, Interclub Council, HOPE Squad, Science Olympiad, BEST Robotics, and Sea Perch.

For Alexa, her outlook on her future is very bright. “I am working towards a degree in Chemistry, intending to work in a laboratory to conduct research and work towards implementing solutions to food scarcity and sustainable agriculture.

In 20 years, I see myself gaining my Ph.D., which took large amounts of hard work, though it never became a limiting factor for my future partner and children. Traveling will become a frequent hobby as I desire to see all parts of our world. Overall, I believe at 38 years old, small moments and big moments shaped the way for my success in all aspects of my life.”

Alexa shared with us her biggest lesson learned from her mentor. “My Take Stock mentor has taught me to take in every moment. As I’ve shared many conversations with her over the last seven years, I learned the importance of reflecting on past experiences and our day-to-day lives. School often takes a large section of our talks, but analyzing the content in my classes gives a deeper understanding of it. We bond over travel, and exchanging what we did on our trips gives us knowledge of places we have never heard of. Breaking our experiences down allows us to live life to the fullest.”

What wise words from an outstanding Take Stock scholar! Congratulations, Alexa!
