Naming Contest! We would like to name our train. Instead of calling it the riding train it would have a name like Thomas (but not Thomas). If you have a suggestion, post it or email us.

On Tuesday, December 6th, the City of Milton will hold a dedication ceremony to unveil a new historic marker honoring the legacy of the J.B. Turner School. The ceremony will take place at 2:00 PM at the intersection of Mary Street and West Walker Street.
Established in 1908, the J.B. Turner School was the first public school in Santa Rosa County for African American students and served students from grades 1-9. Despite the challenges posed by the Jim Crow era and students traveling to class by foot, the school thrived and soon added a program for grades 10-12, which allowed graduates to enter college. Eventually, the school expanded its facilities and curriculum to include clubs, sports teams, and community activities.
Though the J.B. Turner School graduated its final senior classes in the early 1950’s, many of its former students have gone on earn advanced degrees or served our city, state, and nation with distinction in government or the U.S. military.

It had been years since we looked for a church. In some ways we are not like the majority of typical partitioners in the Deep South. When you don’t feel like you fit in, one retreats from even trying to find a church.
This past March an old high school friend posted about a unique church she visited. She called it “radically inclusive”. Something about a church that didn’t care who you voted for, who you loved or where you were in your relationship with Christ. She said the services were “awkward, vulnerable and authentic”. A colossal understatement! And we have loved every minute of the services we visited.
There is something special about this small church. Jesus fills the First Presbyterian Church of Milton, you feel His presence the moment you walk through the doors, in the sermons preached and by the congregation. We look forward to visiting again.

One of our historic churches downtown…
We're not the church packed with young families and programs. We're the church packed with family--the support and love of intentional family--where kids run around in the arms of the church. We love this one and are so proud to tell you the FPC Milton story.
"I actually stumbled upon First Presbyterian Church of Milton by accident several years ago. A friend had told me about a different church, but I ended up staying for the 9:00 service. I’m really glad that I did. It’s been a great experience for my kids and me. It’s a small congregation, which makes the relationships with other members more personal than with a large congregation. Also, I believe that raising kids to love Jesus is a very important aspect of being a parent, and this church has been a positive influence on my girls. It’s a place of unity, fellowship, love, mission, and hope. It’s also inspiring to know that over 150 years ago, people at First Presbyterian felt the same way. Families came together, just as they do now, to worship God as a body of believers under one divine Spirit."--Jackie
If you're inspired or longing to be a part of this--visit (Sundays at 9 am), become a member (Nov 20th or any Sunday), and/or donate to the cause https://www.fpcmilton.org/donate.html.

Welcome to the historic district!

Rev. John Lewis was an itinerant teacher and preacher who traveled between Baghdad and Milton. In 1868, he left his teaching position and decided to raise funds to build a church in Milton. He collected $535 from Mobile, $115 from New Orleans, and $27 from other sources. In March 1868, the construction of the church began. The builder was J. W. Bishop. Rev. W. A. Caster led the first service at First Presbyterian Church of Milton on Friday, August 14th, 1868. There were 28 charter members.
Below is a photograph of some of First Presbyterian Church of Milton's original members. The date of the picture is unknown, but it was taken several years after the church was built.
