In the U.S., only about 10% of cardiac arrests that occur outside of a hospital result in a successful outcome. As first responders, it’s something many may never experience in their entire career.
Our C-Shift crew (Captain Simonton not shown) was fortunate enough to be part of that 10%—and today, West Florida Hospital brought everything full circle by reuniting the patient with all of the first responders who played a role in his pre-hospital care. Moments like this remind us why we do what we do.
Thank you to West Florida Hospital for coordinating such a meaningful reunion and for recognizing the efforts of everyone involved. And a big thank you to the SRSO and Lifeguard crews for being alongside us on scene as that critical first line of response.

It takes a village…crews from East Milton aiding our partners down south at Holley-Navarre Fire, providing coverage at their new North station. This helps enable HNFD the ability to take part in vital dive training.

East Milton Fire Rescue serves one of the fastest‑growing communities in Santa Rosa County. As our population expands, we are seeking qualified and motivated individuals to join our team. We are committed to professional excellence, continuous training, and providing high‑quality emergency services to our residents.

Position Overview
Volunteer and Career Firefighter - The Firefighter position is responsible for performing emergency response duties, including fire suppression, rescue operations, emergency medical assistance, and hazard mitigation. Firefighters also participate in routine training, equipment maintenance, and community outreach activities.

Engineer - The Engineer position is responsible for the safe operation, driving, and pumping of fire apparatus during emergency and non‑emergency incidents. Engineers support the crew by ensuring readiness and reliability of all assigned vehicles and equipment, while also performing standard firefighter duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Volunteer Firefighter:
18 years old
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid Florida driver’s license
Ability to meet physical and medical standards for duty

Firefighter:
State of Florida Firefighter II Certification
Current EMR or higher (EMT preferred)
Valid Florida driver’s license
Ability to meet physical and medical standards for duty

Engineer:
All Firefighter qualifications listed above
Documented experience operating fire apparatus
Current EVOC certification
Minimum 2+ years experience as firefighter
Completion of Florida State Pump Operator certification within 1 year of hire date

Preferred Qualifications

Florida EMT Certification
Previous municipal or district fire service experience
Additional fire service training or specialized certifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Respond to fire, rescue, and medical emergencies
Operate within established safety and incident command protocols
Conduct daily checks, maintenance, and documentation for apparatus and equipment
Participate in department training, drills, and professional development
Assist with public education and community engagement initiatives
Maintain physical readiness and comply with department policies and procedures

Work Environment
These positions requires shift work, operation in hazardous environments, exposure to extreme weather, and physically demanding tasks. Personnel must be able to perform all essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Hey East Milton! On Saturday 12/20, at 9:00 AM, East Milton Fire Rescue will be going through the district wishing all a Merry Christmas and throwing out candy! Rumor has it we may have a very jolly man in red with us! So if you hear sirens through your neighborhood, step out and say hello and catch some candy!!!

Last night we had our annual Christmas party. A great turnout with families, friends, and brotherhood. Thank you all who attended…East Milton strong!

We would like to congratulate the graduation of our first ever Firefighter Cadets, for graduating the GCSC Fire Academy. FF Collin Workman and FF Hunter Hardy began as volunteers at EMFD. They went through a local FF1 class, then progressed to GCSC’s FF2 Bridge Program. They will both be taking their state written test in January, to become Florida Firefighter 2, as career firefighters at EMFD. Congratulations you two, we are extremely proud of you!

East Milton Fire Rescue is eternally grateful to the firefighters who were able to partake in, the instructors who shared their knowledge, and our own members who put together and built these props! An Intro to Search Culture was 8 hours of grueling training and a monstrous success! Our members are looking forward to passing along the knowledge and skills they learned, to pass along to other departments who had members who were not able to attend. Keep an eye out for a date and time!
