This Day In I.T. & Texas History: The Tandy Corporation of Fort Worth, Texas introduced its TRS-80 personal computer, one of the world's first mass-produced desktop computers, on August 3, 1977.

It was sold for $599 through Tandy's Radio Shack stores, had a Zilog Z80 CPU that operated at 1.774 MHz, 4 KB of RAM (expandable to 48 KB) and stored information on a cassette tape, but could support up to four external floppy or hard drives. It used BASIC as its operating system.
