Midland Air and Space Port may have nationwide altitude testing appeal

MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) - A Midland Air and Space Port facility completed its first human altitude tests last month, a sign it may become a destination for this research.

Houston-based C2 Space Tech leaders used the chambers themselves to work out the details of their upcoming study. They said the Midland Altitude Chamber Complex has the ability to make major contributions to research as guidelines change and chamber availability is limited.

Headed up by Kepler Aerospace, the facility holds three chambers. A small one for equipment, a two-person chamber and a large chamber that can fit up to 10 people or large equipment. Unlike many others, these chambers are see-through, said JD Dvorin, director of business development at Kepler Aerospace.

“We used deep sea acrylic, which can handle the pressure. It also helps with the human test subjects as they are less likely to suffer from claustrophobia,” Dvorin said.
