On this day in 1994, Johnny Cash sat down and wrote what many call the greatest love letter of all time, for June Carter's birthday, after decades of marriage.
"We get old and get used to each other. We think alike. We read each other's minds. We know what the other wants without asking... You still fascinate and inspire me. You're the #1 Earthly reason for my existence. I love you very much.
Happy Birthday, Princess."
No grand gesture. No expensive gift. Just a man telling the truth about a love that had only gotten deeper with time.

She is widely considered one of the greatest actresses in the history of cinema, and somehow, decades into her career, she's still proving it true with every new role.
The Deer Hunter. Sophie's Choice. The Iron Lady. Mamma Mia. Every accent, every character, is completely her own and never once the same performance twice.
21 Academy Award nominations. The most of any actor in history. Three wins, with most critics agreeing she deserved at least a few more.
Happy Birthday to a true legend. 🎭

Born on this day in 1953 in Queens, New York.
She dropped out of high school. Her first band went bankrupt. By most measures, she should have given up on music entirely.
Instead, her debut solo album, She's So Unusual, became a global sensation in 1983 and changed what a pop star could look and sound like. Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Time After Time. She showed up completely herself, colorful hair and all, when the industry wanted something safer.
Happy Birthday, Cyndi. 🌈

The one you played on repeat after the breakup, the move, the loss, the one that understood exactly what you couldn't say out loud yet.

On this day in 1971, Joni Mitchell released an album so emotionally naked that it changed what songwriters thought they were allowed to say out loud.
Blue. Rolling Stone called it one of the most candid albums ever written by a popular musician, and decades later, that's still true. A Case of You. River. The title track. Every song felt less like a performance and more like a diary someone had accidentally left open.
It influenced everyone from Taylor Swift to Prince, who once called it his favorite album of all time.
Where were you the first time Blue truly hit you? 💙👇

There is a reason Lionel Richie has sold over 100 million records worldwide. The man writes songs that feel like they were made specifically for the most important moment of your life. Your first slow dance. A road trip with the windows down. A Sunday morning that felt like it could last forever.
He turns 77 today. He's been making music for over 50 years. And Hello is still one of the most recognizable opening piano lines in pop history.
Happy Birthday, Lionel. 🎹

On this day in 1975, everything changed. And nothing looked quite the same afterward. 🦈
Jaws hit theaters and did something almost no film manages to do. It made an entire generation afraid of the ocean and accidentally invented the summer blockbuster.
Before Jaws, studios released their biggest films in the fall and winter, saving summer for the leftover titles. After Jaws, everything changed. The two-note theme John Williams wrote for it is still the most effective piece of tension-building music in cinema history.
Duh-dum. Duh-dum. You just heard it in your head, didn't you?
It made $260 million at the box office on a $9 million budget, becoming the first film to ever cross $100 million domestically.

She was the first Canadian female solo artist to win a Grammy. The first female solo artist to have a platinum album in Canada. And Snowbird, released in 1970, became one of those songs that sounds like a Sunday afternoon in autumn, no matter when you hear it.
Could I Have This Dance was the soundtrack to more first dances at more weddings in the late 70s and early 80s than any other song. If you were at a wedding between 1980 and 1985, you know exactly what I mean.
Happy Birthday, Anne. 🎵
