Incident Release - Aircraft incident at Geauga County Airport
Thursday, May 14, 2026 1050 hrs
The Middlefield Fire Department was notified of an aircraft inbound to the Geauga County Airport (7G8) with a landing gear problem. It was learned that the aircraft would likely be unable to extend its landing gear via normal or backup means.
Additional resources were requested as appropriate for an Alert 2 aircraft incident. These resources staged at the airport entrance while additional units staged closer to the airport movement areas.
The aircraft was able to make a normal approach, landing without landing gear in the grass adjacent to the runway. Emergency crews approached the aircraft and determined that the occupants were not injured and were able to exit the aircraft normally. The pilot in command had already secured the aircraft. There was no fuel leak or fire.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Federal Aviation Administration will handle investigative responsibilities.

Itโs that time of year again - the first duckling rescues of 2026 go to B Shift, who rescued 10 ducklings from a storm sewer in a local business drive through.
