The Bahamas Consulate General in Miami participated in the 20th Annual Sickle Cell Disease Research and Educational Symposium hosted by the Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

As part of the engagement, Consul General Tyson K. McKenzie toured the Foundation, which has expressed an interest in establishing a presence in The Bahamas and supporting Bahamian warriors living with sickle cell disease. The visit also included discussions with Dr. Gershwin Blyden, a distinguished Bahamian physician and internationally respected sickle cell disease specialist, who is being honoured through the naming of a suite at the Foundation.

The engagement forms part of the Consulate’s ongoing healthcare diplomacy efforts and commitment to building partnerships that benefit Bahamians.

Mr. Tyson McKenzie, Consul General, presented on “International Duties of Consular Officers and Types of Cooperation with Law Enforcement in U.S.–Bahamas Relations” during the panel “Regional Security from World War I to Today” at the Florida Political Science Association Annual Conference hosted at Saint Leo University.

This engagement reflects the Consulate’s continued commitment to bridging scholarly discourse with practitioners and policy makers, strengthening the connection between academic research and the practical work of consular officers in advancing regional security cooperation.

The final research paper, under the same title, will be published as part of ongoing academic contributions by the Consulate General in Miami, to the study of international relations, foreign policy, migration, and diplomatic practice between The Bahamas and the United States.
