Congratulations to TARA KHANI, the recipient of the 2026 Zena X. Duncan Unsung Hero’s Award.

Tara is the Chief of Children’s Defense Division & Senior Supervising Attorney at the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office. Tara was selected because she embodies everything this award stands for. As a supervisor, mentor, and advocate, she gives of herself tirelessly — to her clients, to her team, and to any colleague who needs her. She is an indispensable pillar of the legal community, and yet, she has done all of this quietly, selflessly, and without ever seeking recognition.
