While researching Caravaggio’s original pigments for an ongoing project, I came across this book (pictured here). The book illustrates the scientific analysis of Caravaggio’s materials and pigments in great detail!

ART BASEL. The gallery Walden from Buenos Aires made its first appearance at the fair and is exhibiting the works of Feliciano Centurión. I met the artist in 1992 with a great friend from LA, when I came to Buenos Aires to get married. He was a creative and whimsical person. After a visit to his studio, we left with a coffee cup painted on a large blanket and a sculpture of a cactus made with sea sponges.

A rare example of a wood painting. This is an excellent painting of “Magdalene with Alabaster Box if Ointment” after the Italian painter, Andrea del Sarto.

Unfortunately, all of the Seminole objects had suffered moderate to severe light damages, which was irreversible. The goal for this collection was to inhibit any further light damage and stabilize the objects. Objects conservator, Dimitra Pantoulia, stabilized the cardboard/stock from the hair of the small doll and treated the sweetgrass basket with delicate methods.

On November 7th, I had the honor to partake in the Stronger Together: Kick-Off Forum with Hitoshi Kimura to share our experiences as Heritage Emergency Responders. The forum focused on an Alliance for Response in the Sarasota County to create stronger channels of communication with emergency professionals. This forum was hosted by the Elling Eide Center, Research Library and Preserve and took place at The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art.

The objective of this conservation project was to stabilize the terracotta (bisque) and the glazing to prevent further damage. Also, to diminish mold growth and to improve the aesthetic appearance of the bright, but faded color glazing.
