Lately the use of music therapy is gaining traction as a tool in the strategy of helping the children of divorcing parents. As a non-verbal coping strategy, music therapy, can provide children with the opportunity to express themselves. When children & parents make music together, the result is a reduction or elimination of perceived feelings that arise in response to stress. Now that school is starting again, why not look into music this year? Group programs, that are not strictly therapy based, range from new-born to teenagers. Many invite the parents to join in on the fun. What better way to bond with your children than an uninterrupted hour making music? My own children have been in a music program since they where babies. Some nights you can find us all banging away at the piano and drums singing at the top of our lungs!

There is no greater gift you can give your kids than to be present for them.

At what age do you have kids write thank you cards for gifts? To me, the earlier the better (even if all they can do is write their name at the bottom of your thank you). Not only does it teach the important lesson of gratitude, but also helps them learn how to write letters and fill out an envelope to mail.

Sometimes kids just need to have fun with their friends!
