Dozens of advocates, students and community members urged Miami commissioners Thursday to terminate the city’s agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, saying the partnership has created fear among immigrant residents.

Today, community members packed Miami City Hall to demand an end to the City’s 287(g) agreement with ICE.

We reminded commissioners that Miami was not required to enter this agreement. It was a choice and it’s a choice that can be reversed.

287(g) undermines trust, separates families, and makes communities less safe.

Miami is a city built by immigrants. It’s time to turn promises into action.

Today was the final weekly vigil at Alligator Alcatraz.

From the beginning, we said we would continue these weekly vigils until no one remained detained there. Today, we reached that moment.

But the work is not over. We will continue to pursue accountability for the immense harm caused to so many people and fight for the freedom of all those whom the government is unlawfully detaining.

The weekly vigil may be ending, but we remain vigilant. 💙✊🏽

We continue to accompany families, document these testimonies, and demand transparency and humane conditions for all people being held in detention.

Outside these offices, we are also building community: sharing cold water, juice, and a welcoming space for children. In the face of fear and uncertainty, we respond with solidarity, hope, and mutual care. 💙✊🏽

We continue to receive consistent reports of people being held for several days under extremely concerning conditions inside the ICE offices in Miramar.

🚨 Miami residents, this is our moment to speak out.

Next week, the Miami City Commission will discuss the city’s collaboration agreement with ICE. This agreement has fueled fear in our communities and undermined trust between residents and local government.

We need a strong community presence to tell our elected officials that Miami should not be helping carry out federal immigration enforcement.
