AI in research isn’t just a cheating problem. It’s a thinking problem. 🤖📚

In the latest Dr. Mabe’s Corner, Dr. Mabe explores a bigger question for educators: How do we let students use AI without letting it replace the research process itself?

The answer isn’t banning AI. It’s teaching students how to use it as a tool while still doing the work that builds critical thinking: finding credible sources, reading closely, evaluating perspectives, synthesizing ideas, and forming their own arguments.

Because the goal was never to keep AI out of research. It’s to keep students actively thinking through it.

🔐 One interview can change a career.

This week, our Project SECURE Cohort 2 participants took another big step toward entering the cybersecurity workforce as they wrapped up the United Way Miami professional development series with live mock interviews at LAB Miami.

Professionals from Visa, HEICO, MTN, and Archangel Tech volunteered their time to interview our students, provide real-time feedback, and share insights from their own career journeys. For many participants, it was their first opportunity to experience the interview process with industry leaders.

Watching our students walk into the room prepared, confident, and ready to tell their stories was a proud moment. The growth they've shown over the past several weeks is exactly what Project SECURE is all about.

Project SECURE (Skills & Education for Cybersecurity Upskilling, Readiness, and Employment) helps prepare underserved talent for careers in cybersecurity through industry-recognized training, hands-on labs, professional development, mentorship, and connections to employers.

A huge thank you to United Way Miami, LAB Miami, and each of our volunteer interviewers for investing your time, expertise, and encouragement in Miami's next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

The future of cybersecurity is being built right here in our community. 💙

Kids are losing sleep, attention, and the slow time they need to grow, no matter what school they go to.

Dr. Mabe breaks down the 3 biggest takeaways for teachers, and the line that reframes AI literacy: knowing when not to use it. Read the story here: https://hubs.la/Q04pXqJl0

This week, Miami EdTech joined leaders from across the country at the Hispanics in Philanthropy Conference in Los Angeles for the panel, "Latine-Led AI: Leading Community Deployment and Driving Transformational Change."
One theme resonated throughout the conversation: agency.

As AI continues to reshape our economy, the goal is not simply to ensure our communities have access to these tools. We must ensure they have the agency to use them, shape them, and ultimately build them.

Too often, communities are positioned as consumers of technology. The opportunity before us is to help the next generation see themselves as creators, innovators, entrepreneurs, educators, and leaders in an AI-powered future.

The conversation felt especially meaningful as Miami EdTech Founder Carlos Vazquez was joined by his son. As a father, educator, and workforce development advocate, moments like these are a reminder of why this work matters. We are not simply preparing people to use AI—we are helping create a future where the next generation sees themselves as capable of building it.

The future of AI should not happen to our communities. It should be shaped by our communities.

Thank you to Hispanics in Philanthropy, the organizers, fellow panelists, and everyone who joined us for a thoughtful and inspiring conversation.
