Ifa warns that doing this personally without a babalawo’s help would bring about setback. But if the babalawo is the one doing the ebo and propitiation on the client’s behalf, it would ensure elevation, prospect and success for the client. All the animals used in preparing the ebo must be offered to Ifa, and these animals must be prepared for consumption. Different babalawos must be called to come and eat and dine with you on this small party day.

Olumeri Apala was a very prominent person and the name of the Babalawo that always divined for him was *Akusaba-Yanda*. Akusaba-Yanda was the one in charge of the spiritual affairs of Olumeri Apala, who always made all propitiation to Ifa and did all ebo for Olumeri Apala. While he was doing this for Olumeri Apala, Olumeri Apala was experiencing rapid growth in life, and he was very successful in all he did. At some point, Olumeri Apala felt he was spending too much on his babalawo. He felt and believed he could do all the propitiation and ebo by himself, so he could save spending extra money on his babalawo. Olumeri Apala then decided he would no longer call on Akusaba-Yanda anymore, deciding he would be doing all the propitiation and ebo by himself. Olumeri Apala started taking care of his spiritual affairs by himself. He continuously did this but to no avail, unlike before when Akusaba-Yanda, his babalawo, was the one doing the propitiation for him and he was experiencing greatness. But since Olumeri Apala started doing the ebo and propitiation on his own, he didn't experience any greatness nor improvement. Rather, he was experiencing great difficulties and moving from one challenge to the other. After a very long time that he has been doing this, he decided to call back his babalawo Akusaba-Yanda to consult for him. He called Akusaba-Yanda for divination like he used to do in the past. Akusaba-Yanda did divination for him, and he revealed that Ifa is angry with him and that Ifa doesn't listen to his plead anymore because he has ignored his babalawo that helped him achieve all he had. AkusabaYanda told Olumeri Apala he would need to offer ebo and propitiate to his Ifa in an elaborate manner. That a small party must be held for a group of babalawos so his prayer would be accepted and all his prayers would manifest. Olumeri Apala did all what his babalawo said he would do, but this time around he didn't do it on his own, the job was done by the babalawo. Thereafter, Olumeri Apala started to experience greatness again like before. Since then Ifa has made it a decree that no one should be doing their spiritual work on their own, and If they do, they must give out all the spiritual gain of the work to an outside babalawo.

Moral Lesson:

As can be deduced from the above Odu Ifa, under no circumstance should you ignore warnings and flout instructions. No matter how compelling the urge to attend to your personal issues yourself is, do not give in to such temptation. Just as the way you’d go to a hospital to treat yourself when physically ill, you need to consult your babalawo when spiritually ill.

Regardless of your status, when faced with spiritual problems, do not handle it by yourself. You need to consult your babalawo.

And even if you are a babalawo yourself, you can’t still handle your issues yourself. You must consult other babalawos for guidance.
