What an amazing turnout at the Florida City Chambers. Our community came together to thank our outgoing leaders for their years of dedicated service: Mayor Otis T Wallace, Vice Mayor Sharron Buttler, Commissioner Thompson, and Commissioner Berry. We also welcomed and celebrated our new leaders who will continue to build on Florida City’s great initiatives and programs: Mayor Charlotte Thompson, Vice Mayor Rhonda Cobbs, Commissioner Brown, and Commissioner Wilborn. This weekend I had the humbling honor of receiving the Humanitarian Award from Sharon’s Wings of Hope. Sharon Bateman was a loving mother whose life was tragically cut short by domestic violence. Her three children Javarius, Tymika, and Raynal channeled their grief into Sharon’s Wings of Hope, turning their mother’s memory into a lifeline for others. Their courage inspires me every day: they refuse to be defined by what happened to them and instead dedicate themselves to building safety, support, and real opportunities for survivors. I’m profoundly committed to standing with Javarius, Tymika, and Raynal as they carry forward Sharon’s legacy—creating safe spaces, offering resources, and helping survivors find a path to independence, including job opportunities. Thank you to Sharon’s Wings of Hope for guiding our community toward healing, hope, and a future where no one has to endure abuse in silence.
