500,000 years ago, two hydrogen atoms fused into a helium atom near the center of the sun, releasing a photon in the process.

8 and a half minutes ago, that photon finally escaped the sun and started traveling to earth.

A couple of nanoseconds ago, it hit one of our solar panels, generating an electric potential.

That electric potential was channeled through these wires and into your coffee machine, brewing a delicious cup of caffeinated goodness.

Last week, the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released their latest update to their Sixth Assessment Report on Climate Change.

While it’s no surprise they reported we are still living in a climate crisis (even more dire today than before), there was a positive outlook into the future. One of the key messages was that achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 IS possible!

With collaboration from governments, corporations, and individuals, global warming can be tackled and reversed. A lot of the hope for a cleaner future will actually depend on the future of renewable energy, with solar and wind taking the lead in a creating a zero-fossil-fuel future possible.
