Time to counter Havana's false narrative.
Sanctions against Cuba work Cuba’s kleptocratic military junta, with billions of dollars in cash reserves, pleads penury while Cubans living in extreme poverty die because of a lack of lifesaving medications.

On July 11th, 2025, we held a vigil in front of the Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C. to mark the fourth anniversary of the July 11th (11J) protests, the largest demonstrations against the Cuban dictatorship since the 1959 Revolution.
In 2021, thousands of Cubans took to the streets shouting “Freedom!”, “Down with the dictatorship!” and “Homeland and Life!”, a cry of despair and courage in the face of repression, scarcity, and hopelessness. The regime’s response was brutal: mass arrests, torture, censorship, and sham trials.
The vigil, organized by the Center for a Free Cuba, Students For Liberty, and the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, stood as a symbolic act in defense of the Cuban people’s liberty and dignity.
As Cuban national hero José Martí once captured so clearly: "Man loves liberty, even if he does not know that he loves it. He is driven by it and flees from where it does not exist."
They deserve to live in freedom. And the world must remember.
