What does it mean to design in harmony with nature?
We always say we have no seasons in Florida, but what happens if we watch more closely? ๐๐ฉ๐ข๐ต ๐ช๐ด ๐ค๐ฉ๐ข๐ฏ๐จ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ?
What does the land & water have to show us about living here?
How do we create homes and places that help us reconnect to ourselves, to each other and nature?
Those that help us slow down to the natural rhythms of our being..
I was contemplating the modernist maxim ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฎ ๐๐ฐ๐ญ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ด ๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐ค๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ and what would shift if we were to transform or expand on this to the idea that ๐๐ค๐ง๐ข ๐๐ค๐ก๐ก๐ค๐ฌ๐จ ๐๐๐๐ ?
In upcoming posts Iโll explore this idea more closely along with artists and designers that have delved into this territory now & in the past.

Although I love a good moody and earthy interior, thereโs ๐ข๐ญ๐ด๐ฐ something about a bright ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ข๐ค๐ฉ ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฆ that just makes me want to take off my shoesโฆ
Thereโs something ethereal about these sun-filled and relaxed homes that are softened with warm textures and curved forms that make me feel like taking a long deep breathโฆ
In this day and age I think itโs safe to say most of us donโt need to feel more stimulated when we get home.. I want to feel inspired by the things and places I love, but live in a space that feels easy, beautiful and calming.
These beach homes, soft textures and details make me feel just that:
Natural teak-lined ceilings,
Seamless outdoor showers,
The softness of light through white frosted glass,
And a view of the seaโฆ

Miami Art Week / Basel is here at last!
Iโm looking forward to seeing Design Miamiโs displays and the accompanying talks inspired by this yearโs curatorial theme, ๐ฝ๐ก๐ช๐ ๐๐ ๐ฎ.
This year โthe fair will offer a celebration of the boldest leaps of imagination in designโ, and
โdesign is explored as an experimental, risk-taking, and ultimately optimistic ventureโ.
These are the lectures Iโm most looking forward to this week.

This modern home in ๐พ๐ค๐๐ค๐ฃ๐ช๐ฉ ๐๐ง๐ค๐ซ๐, ๐๐ had great bones and a lush existing landscape, but the interiors were a bit more cold and industrial than the new homeowners wanted, with exposed steel beams, a raw concrete slab and dark grey porcelain floors.
Although appreciating the existing architecture, they envisioned a more ๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ข and ๐จ๐ค๐ค๐ฉ๐๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ฉ๐ง๐ค๐ฅ๐๐๐๐ก ๐ค๐๐จ๐๐จ for their new Miami home.
Our job was to bring that vision to life.
๐๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ก๐ฎ ๐จ๐ค๐ช๐ง๐๐๐ walnut became the main focus and we used this material throughout the home to engage with the architectural environment.
๐๐น๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐ช๐ฎ๐น๐ป๐๐ (aka. American walnut) with itโs dark rich color is a sustainable and domestic alternative for endangered tropical timbers of similar aesthetic quality such as teak and ipe.
In the family room (rendering pictured here) we took advantage of the double height ceiling and expansive windows with views to the ๐๐ง๐ค๐ซ๐โ๐จ ๐ก๐ช๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ฃ๐ค๐ฅ๐ฎ, to introduce an installation of vertical wood slats, wrapping walnut on the ceiling and installing new custom floating shelves to really warm up the space.
An alabaster ๐ก๐๐ข๐๐ฌ๐๐จ๐ finish softens the plaster and the new handmade white ๐ฏ๐๐ก๐ก๐๐๐ fireplace surround provides just a bit of needed contrast with shimmering reflections on itโs undulated surface.
An ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ข๐ข๐๐ฉ๐ง๐๐๐๐ก composition of oversized rattan pendants from crowns the space providing soft diffused lighting.
