Dimensions Variable (DV) is an exhibition space committed to the presentation and support of contemporary art. Through a collaborative exchange with artists and institutions, DV develops an exhibition program that engages the community and promotes new and experimental ideas. Dimensions Variable was founded in 2009 by artists Frances Trombly and Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova who currently serve as directors. Support for Dimensions Variable is provided by Cannonball through its WaveMaker Grants program, which is part of the Andy Warhol Foundation’s Regional Regranting Program. WaveMaker Grants is supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, John S. Knight Foundation, and the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs. Additional support for Dimensions Variable is provided by the donation of its exhibition space by Miami Dade College.

The structures we described last time didn't arrive fully formed. When we moved into our current building, we did it on grant funding, and we believed that support would always be there—so we built accordingly, with three galleries, an archive project, and five studios, all carried entirely by the organization. What we hadn't reckoned with was that the organization had no income of its own, and almost as soon as the program was running, we watched the funding begin to recede.
The model that sustains us now came out of that reckoning. We expanded the studios and rebuilt our finances around the people the whole ecosystem is meant to serve—artists as co-builders who sustain the structure through stable studios and membership, rather than a program left waiting on a cycle of support that was never guaranteed. It's a slower, harder kind of independence, but it's ours, and it's what lets us keep taking the risks that outside funding alone could never sustain.
This conversation: "Tomorrow's Nomadic, Collaborative, and Experimental Gallery Model"—was part of Future Talks by Artlogic (), recorded at Future Fair () in New York this past May. Dimensions Variable (DV) presents a solo project titled Field of Convergence by Karla Kantorovich. The exhibition opens on September 26, 2026, and runs through November 4, 2026.
Field of Convergence brings together a body of work made through similar processes and materials—painting, handmade paper, textiles, wood, found objects, and, running throughout, copper and copper-colored pigment. The exhibition extends a practice Kantorovich has pursued for more than a decade, built from materials that arrive already marked by use and time: frayed cloth, tree bark, leaves, old book pages, fragments cut from her own earlier paintings. She has long described an attraction to the moment when objects approach nothingness, the threshold at which matter begins to come apart. For her, these worn surfaces are not depleted but full—each carries the trace of what has altered it, a record of handling, weather, and loss that the work preserves rather than conceals. To assemble them is to treat matter as something that remembers, an active participant in meaning rather than an inert support.
Kantorovich received the Ellies Creator Award 2021 from Oolite Arts, leading to her immersive art installation “AMATE” at Piero Atchugarry Gallery in 2022. She also received an Honorable Mention at the XIX Bienal Rufino Tamayo in Mexico City, exhibiting at the Museo Rufino Tamayo and the MACO Museum of Arte Contemporaneo in Oaxaca, Mexico. She has showcased her work nationally and internationally, including at the XIX International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Florence, the MFA Exhibition at the Frost Art Museum, the Mexican Consulate in Miami, and the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach.
