Hialeah has a lot of heart—and a lot of readers!
Scenes from our READy, Set, Go Miami Community Event at Hialeah Public Libraries:
✅ Storytime magic: Building brains through interactive storytime.
✅ Parent Workshop: We shared how to turn everyday moments—like grocery shopping or waiting for the bus—into “on-the-go” literacy lessons. 🛒🚌
✅ New books for home: Growing home libraries for our local scholars. 🏠
✅ Community Partners: A huge thank you to the partners who joined us to offer free resources to our families.
We loved showing our families that whether you’re reading signs on 49th Street or counting items in the checkout line, you are your child’s first and best teacher.
¡Qué alegría ver a tantas familias de Hialeah comprometidas con la alfabetización y el futuro de sus hijos! 🌟 ¡La lectura y el aprendizaje ocurren en todas partes!

As summer begins, we’re helping students continue their reading journey by building at-home libraries filled with books they can enjoy all summer long. Creating access to books at home helps keep children engaged, curious, and confident readers even while school is out.

Did you know we can use playdough in so many ways to support children’s literacy?
✨ Try these simple ideas:
- Rolling out “snakes” to form letter shapes
- Pressing letter stamps into playdough to practice letter recognition
- Building simple sight words
- Acting out story scenes with playdough characters
Playdough isn’t just fun, it helps strengthen fine motor skills, supports letter formation, and makes learning hands-on and engaging!
Thumbs up for playdough!

We had a wonderful time attending IGNITE! 2026: The Power of Us hosted by PhilanthropyMiami yesterday at Miami Dade College.
It was an inspiring day filled with meaningful conversations, collaboration, and learning alongside nonprofit, philanthropic, and community leaders from across South Florida. From engaging workshops to powerful discussions on leadership, partnership, and collective impact, the conference truly reflected the importance of coming together to strengthen our communities.
We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with so many passionate changemakers and look forward to continuing the work of building stronger futures for children and families throughout Miami-Dade.

Having children draw while being read to can support their understanding of a story.
When children create pictures, they actively process what they hear-connecting words to meaning, visualizing characters, and building a clearer picture of the text. This kind of engagement supports comprehension and helps children retain what they’ve learned.
A simple drawing activity, paired with intentional read-alouds and discussion, can make a meaningful impact.
