In 2009, I came to the U.S. with $800 to pursue my PhD.
Last week, 17 years later, I took the citizenship oath. 🇺🇸
Between those moments were years of uncertainty. After earning my engineering PhD at Boston University, I still struggled to find my footing. Four months of upskilling helped me land a Systems Engineer role at Shell.
My green card journey brought more delays, even after moving to Verizon. I finally received it in September 2020, 11 years after arriving.
Pursuing citizenship independently was a personal choice that mattered to me. Taking that oath felt like closing a chapter I’d been working toward for most of my adult life.
If you’re an immigrant, I’d love to hear what your journey has looked like.
And if your next chapter involves Product Management or AI, DM “CAREER” and I’ll send you the link to apply for a student evaluation with our Head of Admissions to discuss your background, goals, and fit with PM Accelerator.
As a former Director of Product at Fortune 500 companies, I’ve reviewed plenty of senior PM resumes with similar achievements.
A product portfolio helps me understand the thinking behind those results.

Booking flights for my family meant 10 open tabs, comparing points against cash, and still second-guessing my choice.
Sarabjeet built MyTravelWallet AI to help travelers make that decision: use points, pay cash, or save them for later.
I watched him build it inside our AI PM Bootcamp. In 11 weeks, he led AI engineers, data scientists, and designers from an idea to a launched product with real users.

Becoming an AI Product Manager doesn’t mean starting over. You’re building on the product skills you already have.
Here are 5 shifts to focus on:
1️⃣ Explore what AI makes possible for your users.
2️⃣ Understand model limits and trade-offs in accuracy, cost, and speed.
3️⃣ Pay attention to data quality, bias, and how well AI outputs meet user needs.
4️⃣ Work with ML engineers and data scientists, and help your company adopt AI.
5️⃣ Connect technical decisions to business value.
You don’t need to become an ML engineer. You need enough AI understanding to ask good questions and make informed decisions.
Our AI PM Bootcamp helps you build these skills by creating real AI products with a team.

I landed 4 Product Manager job offers during the pandemic. Three were for Director-level Product roles.
At the time, companies were freezing hiring. My background was in oil & gas, and I was already a Group Product Manager at Horizon. I wanted to take the next step into a Director role.
To give myself a deadline, I made a $500 bet with my husband at the time: if I didn’t get an offer within 60 days, he could keep the money.
That got me moving.
Within one day, I updated my LinkedIn and resume, reached out to recruiters I knew, contacted hiring managers, and activated my professional network.
Those conversations led to about 10 interviews.
One recruiter I’d known for years initially told me about a leadership position. Then he mentioned that there were actually four roles and asked whether I wanted to be considered for all of them.
“Absolutely.”
After multiple final-round interviews, I received four offers.
The lesson I took from that experience: relationships deserve a real place in your job search, especially when you’re aiming for senior Product Management roles.
Some leadership opportunities move through trusted networks before they ever appear on a job board. A recruiter who knows your work or a hiring manager who understands your experience may connect you with a role you wouldn’t otherwise find.
If you’re a Senior PM aiming for Director, make time to reconnect with people who know what you can do. Be specific about the responsibility you’re ready to take on and the business impact you’ve delivered.
Want help positioning yourself for your next PM role? DM me “CAREER” and I’ll send you the link to book a free career consultation with our team. We’ll discuss where you are, what’s holding you back, and your next steps.

I watched a candidate spend 12 minutes designing a productivity app for freelancers. Thoughtful features, clear prioritization, confident delivery.
Then the interviewer asked: “What does a bad day look like for a freelancer?”
They couldn’t answer.
They’d built an answer around a persona without showing they understood the person behind it.
It’s an easy trap in Product Manager interviews. You identify a user segment, list a few pain points, and move into features. The answer sounds structured, but a follow-up question can reveal how little you’ve explored the user’s experience.
For a freelancer, is the hardest part juggling deadlines? Chasing unpaid invoices? Losing billable hours to admin? Those are different problems, and each could lead to a different product decision.
User understanding should shape what you prioritize and why, all the way through your answer.
A framework can help you organize your thinking. You still need to make the interviewer understand who you’re helping and what would make their day better.
That’s a skill you can practice, and it’s what Practicely’s AI Interviewer is built to help develop.
