500M worldwide and 1 in 10 Americans suffer from peripheral neuropathy.
The nerve damage causes pain, numbness, tingling and temperature sensitivity in the hands and feet. It can be caused by a variety of factors but most commonly it is caused by diabetes, chemotherapy and alcoholism. In many other cases no definite root cause can be found.
There are no effective treatments and there is no cure, the disease greatly impacts quality of life and even mortality. Do you know someone who suffers from peripheral neuropathy?

Patients with vitamin D insufficiency have a higher incidence of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.
The results of the below study also suggest that vitamin D supplementation in patients with lower levels of vitamin D may reduce peripheral neuropathy, which might improve patients' long-term quality of life.

November 14 is World Diabetes Day.
More than 1 in 3 adults – about 98 million Americans – has prediabetes, and 81% of them don’t know they have it.
Prediabetes can lead to type 2 diabetes and other long-term health conditions, like heart attack and stroke. But prediabetes can be reversed with early action.
The “Do I Have Prediabetes?” campaign encourages people to go to DoIHavePrediabetes.org and take a 1-minute risk test.
Take the test to see where you stand.

In a new clinical trial, an NIH-funded research team compared fasting and calorie restriction for weight loss and blood-sugar reduction.
After six months, participants in the fasting group lost an average of 3.6% percent of their body weight compared to those in the control group. In comparison, people in the calorie-restriction group did not lose a significant amount of weight compared to the control group.
Turns out for many people trying to lose weight, counting time is easier than counting calories!
Intermittent fasting for weight loss in people with type 2 diabetes People with obesity and type 2 diabetes lost more weight using daily periods of fasting than by trying to restrict calories over a six-month period.

November is National Diabetes Month
Nearly 1 in 2 Americans has diabetes or prediabetes. Many patients don't know they have diabetes until they start to experience nerve damage such as tingling, numbness, temperature sensitivity or pain in the extremities.
Take steps to prevent and manage diabetes to avoid serious health problems. Learn more from the Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK):

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.
1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
Early detection is key, especially to avoid chemotherapy which frequently comes with debilitating neurotoxic side effects like numbness, tingling, temperature sensitivity and burning pain.
The most used chemo agents such as taxanes (paclitaxel and docetaxel) cause persistent nerve damage in 63% of patients and more than 50% of patients will suffer from irreversible life-long nerve damage.
Get checked. Regularly. Encourage family/friends to get checked too.
There are over 4 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. today. Early detection saves lives.

Science is amazing!
When Queen wrote the floor-stomping, hand-clapping hit “We Will Rock You,” they probably never imagined that it might one day be used to tame blood sugar levels. But by exploiting proteins that respond to sound, researchers at ETH Zurich took a step toward making pop music a prescribable therapy. The team published a study in The Lancet describing how membrane channels that are sensitive to low-bass pop music can be rigged to regulate insulin release from human cells implanted into mice.1 If adopted in people with type I diabetes, this approach could allow insulin levels to be controlled with music, potentially doing away with injections.
Regulating Insulin With Queen’s Greatest Hits Pop music balanced blood sugar levels in mice, thanks to implanted human cells rigged to release insulin using a sound-sensitive bacterial protein.
