Warming up for 2022 😉 Happy New Year!!!

Calentando motores para el 2022 🙂 Feliz año nuevo para todos!!!

One of the biggest challenges when painting nature subjects is that what is alive is constantly changing. Before you can grasp it, it has already changed. Van Gogh and the impressionists tackled this problem brilliantly. ⁠
I took a photo of this rose so I could have all the time I needed to paint it. The funny thing is that before I could finish it, I was the one who had changed and now the idea I had is not possible. If you look closely the language of the leaves is different, I cannot go back. This happens to me all the time. It is nerve-racking but is very interesting. ⁠
It was supposed to be a triptych. Plans? forget plans. ⁠

Una de las cosas más difíciles al pintar la naturaleza es que lo que está vivo está en continuo cambio. Antes de que uno pueda medio captar lo que está pintando, ya cambió. Este problema lo abordaron Van Gogh y los impresionistas de una forma brillante. ⁠
Yo tomé la foto de esta rosa para tener todo el tiempo que necesitara para pintarla. Lo gracioso es que antes de terminarla yo fui la que cambió y ahora no la puedo hacer como pensaba. Si miran con cuidado, el lenguaje de las hojas es diferente al de la rosa y ya no puedo volver atrás. Esto me pasa todo el tiempo. Es desesperante pero también muy interesante. ⁠
Y se supone que es un tríptico. Planes? habrá que olvidarse de los planes. ⁠

This is the original sketch of a mountain I made in Virginia. I was studying the work of Matisse, maybe that had something (or a lot) to do in the explosion of color.⁠ ⁠I have tried to have a similar experience since then, but I haven’t been able to do it. I am sure it can happen again if I get completely immersed in nature with time to work. I am aiming at having a chance like that again. ⁠
The next post will be the triptych I made. ⁠

Este es el boceto original que hice de la montaña en Virginia. En esos días estaba estudiando el trabajo de Matisse y es muy probable que eso haya tenido mucho que ver en la explosión de color presente en este dibujo. ⁠
He tratado de tener una experiencia similar pero no ha sido posible. Estoy segura de que puede volver a pasar si logro sumergirme en la naturaleza durante varios dias, concentrada en mi trabajo. Estoy trabajando por lograr tener una oportunidad así otra vez. ⁠

Painting with acrylics on canvas. This work is the result of a series of sketches that started in Virginia. As you can see I had a sketch I had done in gouache, in which I had a clear idea of what I wanted to achieve on the paintings. ⁠

Pintando con acrílicos sobre lienzo. Este trabajo es el resultado de un largo proceso de dibujos y bocetos que empezó en Virginia. Como pueden ver en la imagen, yo había hecho un boceto en guache a través del cual tenía bastante definido lo que quería hacer en las pinturas.

A few years ago, we made a family trip to Virginia. We rented a little cottage in the middle of nowhere. We wanted to be immersed in nature, away from everything (even the internet), and we found the right place. The Appalachian mountains offered us beautiful scenery, gorgeous mountains covered in luscious forests irrigated by the most spectacular rivers and lakes. We had contact with a rich variety of flora and fauna like horses, birds, deer, rabbits, bears, beetles, butterflies, and even wolves howling in the distance.⁠⁠
I am sharing this story because, in this place, in an afternoon full of special colors, I made a particular drawing from where a different kind of artwork emerged. It is different from everything I have shared up to this point and its part of a parallel line of work that I have been exploring. I will be sharing images of this project in the following days. ⁠⁠

Hace un par de años hicimos un paseo familiar a Virginia. Rentamos una pequeña cabaña en la mitad de la nada. Queríamos sumergirnos en la naturaleza, lejos de todo (incluso de internet), y encontramos el lugar perfecto. Los Apalaches, una cadena montañosa llena de paisajes espectaculares de montañas cubiertas de bosques regadas por ríos y lagos. Tuvimos contacto con una gran variedad de flora y fauna del lugar como caballos, pájaros, venados, liebres, osos, abejorros, mariposas e incluso lobos que aullaban a la distancia en las noches. ⁠⁠
Estoy compartiendo esta historia con ustedes, porque en este lugar, en una tarde de esas que el cielo se cubre de una luz especial, hice un dibujo del cual un trabajo artístico diferente emergió. Es distinto a todo lo que les he mostrado y es parte de un trabajo paralelo que he venido explorando. Estaré compartiendo fotos de este proyecto en los próximos días.

Kingfishers are one of my favorite birds. Apart from being incredibly beautiful, I deeply admire them. How on earth could such a little bird go into the water and become a water hunter? they hunt big birds for their size, it's unbelievable. Anyway, every time I see one it brings so much joy, they are like little miracles. They have inspired me to achieve the impossible, to get out of my comfort zone. I am definitely not good at sales but if that little fish can hunt such big fish from the water, I can learn to commercialize my work and I am on it. What is your impossible? ⁠⁠

El Martin Pescador es una de mi aves favoritas. Además de ser increíblemente hermosos, los admiro profundamente. Cómo pudo una pajarito tan chiquito volverse semejante buzo y cazador de agua? cazan peces más grandes que ellos, es increíble. Cada vez que veo uno es un momento de gran alegría, son como pequeños milagros. Este pajarito me inspira a lograr lo imposible, a salir de mi zona de confort y lograr lo que quiero y necesito. Yo no soy buena en ventas, nunca lo he sido; pero si ese pajarito puede sacar esos peces del agua, yo puedo aprender a comercializar mi trabajo y estoy en eso. Cual es tu imposible?⁠⁠
