Lately, I have been drawn to still life tablescapes such as these. Perhaps is that we are heading into the holidays. Mostly, because the mix of flowers and vegetables have long been used as inspiration by artists for as long as we have existed. Whichever, I think it’s a fresh approach for a tablescape. What are your thoughts? Do you prefer traditional flowers?

When I lived in NYC, I had a studio apartment on the fourth floor of a brownstone on the West side of Manhattan. This room reminds me of it. I loved that little apt. It had ceiling to floor windows, one opened to a terrace much like this one, a fireplace and skylight in the bathroom. I felt I lived in a treehouse. Sheltered from the city noise among the trees, overlooking hidden courtyards I lived my best at moments. Central Park and the MET at my feet.

I have such a pet peeve about phone usage at the table. Yet, I have to admit that on more than one occasion, I have used my cell while sitting at a meal. It seems that now table etiquette and setting guides also include a place for our sidekick, the phone 📱 What would the queen of etiquette, Emely Post have to say about this?

What a beautiful and inviting table from her book “A Table For Friends.” Of course, the backdrop of a Venetian interior brings it all together. What do I love? The casual elegance of the setting:
The colored tapered candles, the crisp tablecloth and the color napkins.
