This is cool guys, I have my first hater for my art! If you have the time I have the comment made towards one of my art pieces and my response. Thanks to all who support me no matter the subject matter.

My response:

This is my first comment about my work that needed clarification. To my critics about my recent work. Think about it this way, do you love your parents? I do, but don’t forget as loving or unloving as your parents are, they too had a past. They too made mistakes, and have had some regrets over the harm they have caused others. You see, I’m a spiritual man, and I know the TRUTH shall set me free. The truth is I love this country and I’m proud to be a citizen of this country. However, in order to personally heal I have to tell the truth of what my parents actions has done to me as an individual. My work isn’t about hate or disrespect, only truth, and peeling back the TRUTH of our nation is a step towards my healing.

There are so many things to explore on a canvas. So many dimensions and layers to help uncover what an artist could say.

Everyone does it including me! We paint the picture we want people to see. We show only at face value the colors and the shapes we feel should define use. However, the most intriguing and authentic part of us is painted within our interior.

We let words like, doubt, and fear cover up love and hope.
We have many layers that are beautiful to uncover. However you choose to reveal yourself, let them see the real you which is on the inside.

The special point about this piece is the message read when your heart is mirrored. Much like a mirror the message is read perfectly.

My art is pushing towards self discovery. It’s important we find out who you really are so you can not only love ”your self”, but like “your self”.

I’m my worst critic, I don’t treat myself with kindness or much compassion. So where along the way, I learned how to protect and defend myself on subconscious levels. Through pain and hurt I made inner vows never to feel or receive again.

If you pull back the canvas of your life you will find the blue print of your true self.

The meaning behind the meaning. My painting has its roots based off of Dr. Allender talk at hope4life regarding identity through trauma.

The piece has the intent to spark awareness and surprise to encounter a fundamental question of, “who are you really?”

The piece is a painting within a painting. Juxtaposed together with text and elegant paint strokes the canvas exposes the bare bones of the piece. Consequently revealing a message to the viewer.

The readable black text states, “Truth is always visible when you peel back what is hidden.”

This statement is written within the borders of the painting to be both literally, and metaphorical as to imply the question of, “who are you really within the framework of your life”. The written text was applied to the “raw” side of the canvas (the back) to imply the grit and raw nature of truth. The intent of the painting is to challenge the viewer to honor and name their brokenness so truth may have its way.

The posture of the canvas as it stretches across the frame creates organic contours at each edge as it is held back by the paint brush. This represents the physical and visual tension in the painting and in our own ability to seek truth.

The color choice to represent on the front of the canvas was black and white formed with a elegant strokes to state the simplicity in the answers we seek.

The material choice to use canvass as an expressive medium was to speak to the awareness that we are all works of art as we paint across the framework of our lives. In essence, you have to pull back your canvas and see what’s written on your true heart.
