Today is Mother’s Day and this one is for the unsung hero — the bonus mom.

My wife has been Leon’s since he was three. She loves him deeply, she brings fun and creativity and resilience into his world. I watch who he’s becoming and I see her in it.

Before moving into photography, I was a martial artist who taught Shaolin Kung Fu. That background gave me a deep understanding of movement and form, which shaped the way I capture motion and action.

In 2000, I developed Kinetic Silhouette to capture athletes in motion. It came from wanting to show movement beyond a single moment.

By combining stroboscopic, standard flash, and constant light in interchanging sequences, multiple phases of motion are layered into one frame. The result is a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, forming a sculpted silhouette of the subject.

From that work came collaborations with Nike, Puma, Olympics and the World Cup.

This was one of my early lighting experiments—focused stroboscopic.

She is lit with a single flash, while the hands move through multiple exposures—just the hands strobing.

This lighting technique was developed and eventually used for Costume National and Diesel clothing campaigns.

The LoveSaints explores love in all its forms — romantic, passionate, erotic. This is agape. Selfless, sacrificial, unconditional love.

Sara O’Meara and Yvonne Fedderson were rising Hollywood actresses in 1959 when a typhoon in Japan changed everything. They found orphaned children on the streets, walked away from fame, and never looked back. Sixty-five years later they have saved over 12 million children from abusive homes and situations so horrendous they cannot be described.

Eight Nobel Peace Prize nominations. A bond between two soul sisters that has never wavered. This is truly God’s work — and these are truly living saints.

At Childhelp’s 65th Anniversary Gala, we offered a commission as an auction item to help raise money for Childhelp, a cause we deeply believe in. The winners gifted the experience back to Sara and Yvonne themselves — and that’s how this piece was born.

We photographed them in April 2024, layering their portraits over archival photography spanning their entire journey. At the center stands the Christ figure from the chapel in their home. At the base, John 14:12 — their faith scripture, the verse that has guided everything they have built and every child they have saved. This piece was painted in deep prayer. It is called The Trinity of Hope. 🙏🏽

First time I shot Missy was with Beyoncé for Honey back in 2000. She must’ve liked the frames—ended up bringing me on for four album covers and a few Adidas campaigns after that.

I am now officially in the prime of my life. I want to experience every age for just one year. So far this has worked out perfectly. Here goes to being 54 for just one year!
