At last year’s Fuce 5K, the Fucille Foundation announced that it would cease operations at the end of last year. I am proud to formally introduce “It Takes A Borough ,” which will carry forward the Fuccile Foundation’s torch by continuing to host both the beloved annual Fuce 5K and the Metuchen Cookie Walk each year so that we can continue to support residents whose lives have been impacted by tragedy or unforeseen circumstances.

Since the Fall, Borough officials have been collaborating with Board Members from the Fuccile Foundation in an effort to continue its mission through “It Takes a Borough,” which we initially introduced in 2018 as a mechanism to support Metuchen families in need.

The volunteers of “It Takes a Borough,” many of whom previously served the Fucille Foundation, are extraordinary volunteers who, like so many others in Metuchen, have come together to support our community. To register for the 2024 Fuce 5K, visit: https://runsignup.com/Race/Register/?raceId=8567.

As we wake up on this beautiful snowy morning, I am feeling deeply grateful to the staff of our Department of Public Works, who in the wake of a last-minute change in the forecast arrived on the job in the middle of a Friday night/Saturday morning to plow and salt our roads for us.

While they still have a few hours of work to do, many of our streets have already been cleared to the blacktop so that they are safe for travel. Many staff members have been hard at work since midnight and they are doing a wonderful job.

Good morning, Metuchen. So far, approximately three inches of heavy snow has fallen in the Borough and a few more inches are anticipated before the afternoon.

Our DPW staff members are working hard to clear the roads but they are currently in poor condition. Our Police Department reports that there have already been a number of car accidents. A few trees have fallen around town and wires are down at New Durham Avenue and Bridge Street. Please do not drive until further notice unless you absolutely must.

Also, please be very careful when shoveling this type of heavy snow. Sudden exertion can be hard on those who have a history of or who may be at high risk of heart problems. We are closely monitoring the incoming storm, which is presenting a range of scenarios because at this moment, it is difficult to predict when temperatures will freeze in Metuchen. Either way, we expect that precipitation will begin with rain overnight and the greatest intensity is expected during our morning commute.

We are coordinating our efforts between and among our Police Department, Department of Public Works and School District and we will continue to carefully monitor the impact of the storm on the Borough.
