Sometimes we have to meet them exactly where they are.
Some dogs come through our doors and love us instantly. Some make us earn every bit of trust, every glance, every wag of a tail. And some dogs simply need us to sit beside them and be what they need in that moment.
Like Luci.
Luci is an old soul who has been navigating a world that feels a little different now that her vision is gone. This week, we have the privilege of caring for her while her family is away.
This morning, while we were cleaning up after breakfast, I felt a gentle nudge against my leg. Then another. And another. After a few determined attempts to climb into my lap like a toddler demanding to be picked up, I finally sat down, gathered her into my arms, and sang to her.
I am not Mom.
But for this week, I can be the next best thing.
Mom's lap is where Luci feels safest. Mom's voice is what brings her comfort. And while we can never replace that, we can meet her where she is and give her the reassurance she needs until her family comes home.
This is why we do what we do.
Not every act of care looks the same. Sometimes it's enrichment and adventures. Sometimes it's training and guidance. Sometimes it's baths, playtime, and belly rubs.
And sometimes it's simply sitting on the kitchen floor, holding an old dog close, and reminding her that she's safe.
It is one of the greatest honors of our lives to care for someone else's dog—a piece of their family, their heart, their home. We never take that responsibility for granted.
Thank you to every family who trusts us with your dogs. And thank You, God, for the blessing of loving them. 🐾❤️🎀✝️

De-sheds are one of the most misunderstood services in grooming — and truthfully, not all de-sheds are created equal.
Right now we are deep in heat and shedding season, and this is the time of year where owners start seeing tumbleweeds of hair across the house and think, “My dog just needs a de-shed.”
But here’s the thing:
A real de-shed is not just grabbing a rake or a Furminator and pulling hair out.
A proper de-shed starts before the bath ever begins.
Every dog’s coat tells a story. Their breed, diet, home maintenance, brushing habits, products used at home, environment, skin condition, and even the sprays or leave-in products being used all affect the coat and skin. Before we ever wash a dog, we’re already assessing what that coat and skin actually need.
Once the bath begins, there’s no timer.
No “5-minute scrub.”
No rushing the process.
We work the coat until it’s ready.
During our process, we use specialized products and methods to open the hair follicle so we can deeply cleanse, rehydrate, and loosen all of that impacted undercoat properly and safely. The magic of a de-shed truly happens in the tub.
From there, we continue the process through careful blow-outs, coat work, and steady hands — not by stripping or damaging the coat with harsh tools or excessive blade work.
A proper de-shed should:
🐾 Remove dead coat without damaging healthy coat
🐾 Help restore hydration to skin and hair
🐾 Leave the follicles clean and healthy
🐾 Reduce shedding significantly at home
🐾 Protect coat texture and integrity
🐾 Never leave the skin irritated, scratched, or stripped
Anybody can market a “de-shed.”
Anybody can grab a rake and start pulling coat.
But not everyone is educating themselves on coat health, follicle function, skin condition, and long-term coat preservation.
That’s why it’s important to ask questions.
What products are being used?
What tools?
What is the process?
How is the skin protected?
How is the coat being preserved?
A de-shed shouldn’t feel like a gimmick or a rushed add-on service.
It should be thoughtful, educational, and tailored to YOUR dog.
This is just a little look into how we approach things here — with intention, education, and care for the dogs underneath the hair. 🐾
Just another day being everyone’s favorite place. 🐾
