We are starting to get our crafts ready for our booth at the Family Summer Palooza! This year we will teach how to create beautiful paintings a glass gem and turn them into magnets. We tried it out in our after school class and they couldn’t get enough! Don’t forget to stop by our booth at Expo Idaho on June 1st between 10-5. Hope to see you there!

Parents, make some time for YOURSELF! Sign your kids and teens up for our art classes and you will have an hour and a half to do whatever you want! They will have a blast learning technical artistic skills while you are free to stroll through downtown Boise and have a meal, a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, or any of the other many options nearby! You could also sign yourself up for our adult art classes, enjoy adult time with friends, have a glass of wine, and make artwork you are proud of. February is the month of love, so give some to yourself ❤️

Here is what we will be working on...

Project 1: Dramatic Lighting Chalk Pastel Animals
We will begin by practicing the animal they choose to draw. We will complete a guided step-by-step drawing as a group, then we will practice chalk pastel techniques to show dramatic lighting. Once the students feel comfortable, they will move on to their final drawing. Their final project will be to draw an animal with dramatic lighting using chalk pastel.

Project 2: Book Page Ink Portraits with an Accent Color
We will being by creating a collage of book pages for the background. Then students can choose the face they would like to draw. They will use transfer techniques to draw the face on their final paper. We will use ink to fill in all of the dark values. They will also incorporate an accent color using chalk pastel.

Our first Summer Session begins next week and spaces are filling up! For every project we complete at Syringa Art Studio, we work on a skill building activity first. That way you have a chance to practice new skills before you are expected to make something awesome. For this session, we will complete watercolor painting of a cactus and a white charcoal pencil drawing of a jellyfish on black paper. It should be lots of fun!
