Meet Shane Sherrod, First-Year Electrical Apprentice at EGT Solar! 🌞

Shane joined EGT earlier this summer, and he’s been a great addition to our install crew. During his off hours, he’s busy continuing his education via College of Western Idaho’s electrical program and spending time with his family. ⚡️

💬 PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
“I used to be a Certified Pharmacy Tech, but found out it didn't keep my interest. I then went into HVAC distribution in a warehouse, then moved on to a beef plant where I promoted to different departments, ultimately ending there as an Industrial Electrician. I saw a post on Facebook about EGT hiring, and I have always been interested in getting solar panels to live off-grid, so I thought, what better way to learn than to work somewhere that I can continue my education as an electrician and learn to install solar myself? I am in my second year of school in the electrical program at CWI.”

💬 MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT:
“The opportunity to build and grow myself, as well as the opportunity to fulfill my dream of living in a remote area and still having power.”

Community Spotlight: Assistance League of Boise 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

Assistance League of Boise’s mission is to improve the lives of children and adults in the community through its volunteers and programs. The organization helps meet the essential needs in our community so families can flourish.

Now that Treasure Valley schools are in session, Assistance League’s school-aged programs, like Operation School Bell® and Teen Retail, are especially needed. Operation School Bell® provides brand new clothing and shoes to eligible elementary school-aged children throughout Ada County. For some children, this will be the first time they have had a new pair of shoes, a warm coat, or a toothbrush of their own. New clothing has the potential to boost self-esteem, encourage school attendance, and improve academic performance.

2024–25 numbers for:

Operation School Bell® (Ada County):
📝 3,349 elementary age students served, with each child given:
🧤 2 pairs of pants, 2 t-shirts, sweatshirt, winter coat, hat, & gloves
🧦 6 pairs of underwear, 6 pairs of socks, shoes, personal care kit, & book

Teen Retail (Ada County):
📓 1,226 junior high/middle school and high school students served
🛍️ Each student given $200 to spend on clothes and shoes at JCPenney

Operation School Supplies (Ada County):
📚 14,859 students served
🖇️ Supplies are purchased and assembled for each participating school
🏫 School counselors then pick up and distribute supplies

From Assistance League of Boise:
“We are fortunate to have many volunteers who are dedicated to working Operation School Bell®. Each day we have approximately 75 students come to our facility to receive brand new clothing. We have a minimum of 15 volunteers involved every day. We will dress approximately 3700 preschool through elementary school students in Ada County and another 200 in Canyon County in 2026–27.”

It’s back-to-school month for many students in the Treasure Valley, and Whittier Elementary is again starting the year with solar overhead. 📚☀️

EGT completed this massive rooftop solar array for the school last fall, and Whittier is already seeing a major impact from nearly a year’s worth of generating its own energy on campus. Stay tuned in the coming weeks, as we’ll be sharing data about the school’s energy offset!

Meet Aden McIntosh, Installer for EGT Solar! 👷🏻‍♂️☀️

Aden joined our install crew last summer after exploring a lineman program and developing an interest in learning the solar trade. He quickly gained the respect and praise of skilled electricians and installers on our crew, and proved himself to be a reliable, go-to team member within just a few months of working in the field. We appreciate Aden’s work ethic and enthusiasm for getting hands-on experience with all kinds of installations.

When he’s not on the job, you’ll likely find Aden on the river or in a pool on a warm, sunny day.

💬 RESIDES IN:
Boise

💬 BACKGROUND:
After graduating high school, I went through a lineman program in hopes of learning the trade. Once graduating, I decided I liked the idea of producing green energy and applied at EGT in hopes of learning more about solar power.

💬 MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT:
One thing I really enjoy about the solar industry is all of the different types of ways to install solar, along with the everyday challenge of installing solar panels on different roofs.

💬 FAVORITE SUNNY DAY PASTIMES:
On a sunny, warm day, I love getting in the water, either the Boise River, a pool, or any sort of lake.

💬 BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT:
Being invited to and attending a KidBiz [youth entrepreneurship] awards ceremony. My friend and I were the only ones to receive a trophy for our work relating to KidBiz in our entire school.

💬 FUN FACT:
Something that always surprises people about me is that before moving here to Boise, I lived in Hawaii for the first 11 years of my life. I was born and raised there and still visit family there often.

💬 A CAUSE WITH SPECIAL MEANING:
A cause that I support is renewable energy, and I support it by helping build it. I think it’s really important as a society to push towards green energy.

💬 COOLEST APPLICATION OF SOLAR:
Out in space on satellites. I’ve always found this application of solar extremely interesting, and it looks pretty awesome, too.
