If you have an upcoming 4th or 5th grader and you want to help your child to be successful in math...make sure they know their BASIC MULTIPLICATION FACTS (0-12) this summer! Buy flashcards from the dollar store (or make them) and practice a few minutes each day with your child. Literally every skill in math (especially 5th grade) is dependent upon students knowing their facts. I PROMISE it will make a huge difference in math class when they start school. 😊

"I CAN'T DO WORD PROBLEMS!" How many times have I heard this? Being able to pick out key words in a story problem is essential to setting up the proper equation. Here is a "cheat sheet" that I give my students to help make it a little easier! If you need further help, let me know!

The purpose of reading is comprehension — getting meaning from written text. Improving a student's reading comprehension is vital for success in their academic career. One way to drastically improve comprehension is practice, practice, practice! We encourage students to participate in R.E.D. Read Every Day!

I often get asked why teachers spend so much time on multiplication facts in elementary school. Without full mastery of the multiplication facts, kids struggle as they start to tackle division, fractions, and problems with larger numbers. They use so much of their working memory on simple calculations that they have little brain space left for understanding new concepts.

Although my core focus is math and language arts, I can assist with improving study skills, organization, test prep (including ACT, GED and WorkKeys) and all elementary / middle school subjects as needed.
