Wildlife Update – North Merced

Earlier today, Merced Police Department was notified by a resident of a mountain lion spotted in a tree along Cottonwood Creek in North Merced.

Merced PD promptly contacted the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Representatives responded to the scene, safely tranquilized and secured the animal, and will be transporting it back to its natural mountain habitat.

We appreciate the quick response and coordination to ensure the safety of both the community and the animal.

Reminder: Wildlife can occasionally make its way into our neighborhoods. If you encounter or spot wildlife, please report it to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Merced is one of the fastest growing cities in the State of California, and despite the state's budget woes, this allocation will help alleviate some of the demands for housing in our community.

We helped secure nearly $30 million dollars for the city as part of the Homekey + Program from the California Department of Housing & Community Development.

The Homekey+ Program is an opportunity for state, regional, and local cities and towns to develop a broad range of housing types like single- family homes, multifamily apartments, adult residential facilities, and more!

This is a step forward in helping to solve California's housing crisis and California's affordability crisis! I will work even harder this year to secure more state funding like this for our communities!
